John's Story

Life Athol was a marvelous and magical place for me while growing up. I can’t imagine a better place and Athol High was the greatest. After graduating from high school I attended and graduated from Mary Karl School of Electronics in Daytona Beach, Fla.. I then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served my country honorably for twenty years. Among my most memorable accomplishments were: Graduated from three Air Force Technical Schools and the Air Force Leadership School. I participated in the Sram Missile Program at Barksdale AFB, La. in The Strategic Air Command for defense of our nation. Safety Officer and supervisor over the White Scoring Team at Toliche Peak Missile Range in Nevada as part of The Red Flag mission for training pilots. I was fortunate enough to work at the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory at Hanscom AFB, Ma. with scientists and physicists in the Infared Scientific Field. I was an air crew member and our mission was to perform infared measurements on aircraft, ground targets , and other targets for military purposes. On our aircraft we had the prototype of what is now known as Night Vision and the Global Positioning System (GPS). It was an exciting, challenging, and rewarding time for me. I was a nobody but I was fortunate enough to work in a great field with great people. At the Timing Shop at Wright-Patterson AFB, Oh. I supervised and worked on Precision Clocks that were used on aircraft in support of the Space Shuttle. Awarded The AIR Force Commendation Metal for work above and beyond the call of duty. Graduated from Park College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and an Associates Degree in Management. A graduate also of the Internal Revenue School for Agents. My most rewarding yet challenging work was at the Alzheimer’s Unit of the Dayton VA Medical Center in Ohio where I was able to help in a small way those Veterans whose life had taken a turn for the worst with this horrible disease. Many friends were made & lost but my fond memories will last forever. I have be...Expand for more
en blessed with a loving wife, three grown children, several grandchildren, a Heavenly Father who loves me and a Savior who died for me. I have finally reached that pinnacle of life that we all strive to achieve. I have retired after 36 years of my lives work, my children have left the nest, my dreams have not all been fulfilled, and my heart’s desire is to leave some mark or legacy of my time here on earth. My philosophy on life is portrayed best by The Uncharted Journey Of Life which follows: We shall never pass this way again so let’s enjoy the journey along the way. I believe life or the road of life is more or less an uncharted journey of; Adventure & Thunderstorms, Sunsets & Sunrises, Peaks & Valleys, Sunshine & Rain, Bumps & Curves, Rainbows & Waterfalls, Crossroads & Dead ends and Twilight & Dawn. A road we must all travel with tears & joy come what may. While traveling The Road Of Life: Love passionately, Forgive quickly & Humble yourself by treating others better than you treat yourself. Commit yourself to the youth with tenderness, compassion to the elderly, encouragement to the struggling, and tolerant to all who are weak or have been wronged. Sometime in your life you will have been every one of these. Don’t equate money with success. What counts most about success is how a person achieves it. The most important things in life are our relationships not fame nor fortune. More than anything else relationships reveal the true meaning of a successful and meaningful life. They are what life is all about and therein lies the secret of a happy life. May you bless others as God has blessed you! School Nene is the girl I remember having a wicked crush on. She was a most wonderful girl who had it all; beauty, personality, inteligence, talent, and sweetness. All that and more; She really was the girl next door, actually she was the girl across the street. She was my first love. Unfortunately, we went our separate ways. I wish her only the best. May the Lord bless her as she has blessed others!
