Regina's Story

Life I married March 14, 1970 to the most wonderful man I've ever met,Charles Edward Johnson. This year has been the most devastating year of my life, the year 2007. My husband passed away on the 24th of May and my father died on November 8th of the same year. They were two wonderful men in my life. The 37 years that Charles and I were together ,he may have raised his voice five times, and to me that is brilliant with 9 children to contend with. Unfortually, I don't have that record. I wanted to work after we begin our family but we made a consious decision that I would stay at home and take care of the children, and I truly enjoyed taking care of our family. It was very challanging but also very rewarding. He was an unusual man and a smart man.He graduated from Valley State with a BS in Biology and he worked one summer at Berkely University in the lab, in Berkely California. He loved it! Charles loved science. He always gave you the feeling that you could do better with your life. Charles inspired me to go back to school and get my associate in Child Care Development and I got my Masters in Christian Education. He was the love of my life. We always told each other how much we loved one another. I would tell him how I appreciated the way he treated me and the children. We found out that he had diebetes in the year of 1993. I took him to the doctor myself because his doctor just changed his blood pressure medicine and he was getting weaker and weaker.I knew that heart trouble ran in his family so I called the best heart spealist in Oxford, Ms. The nurse wanted to know who recommened the doctor and when she found out that ...Expand for more
a nurse (a friend of ours) had recomended him she did not want to make an appointmentment for my husband. I told her that I lived with my husband and heart trouble ran in his family and I wanted him to see this doctor and I also knew that something was wrong with him. I got the appointmentment! The doctor gave the test and he was diebetic. His blood sugar that day was over 900. The doctor said he should not have been able to remember where he was or what was going on but Charles remembered everything. He had open heart surgery in 1999. So he lived with diebites 14 years. He retired in 1998. One of my daughters friend was at my husband's funeral and she was so impressed concerning the things said about Charles that she told her we should write a book about him. We have decided that we will and the date was set for everyone to be finished so that it can be proofread and it is right around the corner. We had 9 beautiful children,6 boys.3 girls. The first four sons are married to wonderful women and we have eleven grands(5 boys,6 girls). The majority of the children are educated and they all have good jobs. One of our daughters is teaching at Ole Ms and is writing her dissertation for her PHd. I hope I said that right because Andrea(my daughter) will correct me. My children have been a blessing to me. They are taking good care of me. Oh yes, and I am taking care of my husband's mom. She is 92 years of age. She is so different from my husband. He never complained, she always complains. Truthfully speaking if I did not love my husband so much, I probably could not take care of her, but because of him I care for her.
