Sharon's Story
Life
After graduation from SHA in 1964, attended Powelson Business Institute for Medical Secretary and worked in the Engineering Dept. of N.Y. Telephone Co. In July 1965 was accepted into the Radiologic Technology program at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, N.Y. for a 24 month program, with affiliation at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vt. Upon graduation in 1967, worked as a Medical Assistant/Xray Technologist for a group of Cardiologists in Syracuse, N.Y. In 1969 was hired by the Medical Dept. of Carrier Corporation in Syracuse where I was also the Medical Assistant/Xray Technologist.
In 1975, married an East side Polish fellow from Syracuse who coincidentally also worked for Carrier in the Engineering Dept. I continued working at Carrier until the birth of our first child Valerie who was born on Mother's Day 1977. She was joined by her brother Kevin in June of 1979, and sister Stephanie in October of 1981. A year later I began to do childcare out of my home and have continued it till the present time and absolutely love it.
My husband was transferred by Carrier to Tyler, Texas in July of 1995 and we continue to live here and enjoy it very much ... it's in the Eastern part of Texas, between Dallas and Shreveport, La. The best part is that 90 % of the days are ...Expand for more
sunny and the most snow we've gotten since we moved here is about 2 or 3 inches (a year!!)... which melts in an hour or two!
We like traveling around the U.S. and especially like visiting the casinos! We enjoy community theater and are season ticket holders to two different ones. We love going to concerts -- my two favorites were the Cher Farewell Tour which we saw in the Woodlands, Texas, and also Josh Groban who we recently saw at the Grand Ol' Opry House in Nashville.
We are proud of the fact that our children are all college graduates and are busy with their careers: Valerie is married and is a Physical Therapist and recently moved to Hartford, Connecticut where her husband Michael Pagano is continuing his studies. Kevin is a Fireman/Paramedic here in Tyler; Stephanie recently moved from Austin to Dallas and is an Assistant Account Executive.
We have carried on the Polish cultural traditions that were handed down to us by our grandparents and parents, and are very pleased that our children are now practicing those traditions in their own lives.
I cannot believe that 40 years have gone by so quickly and I look forward to rekindling some of the old friendships and making new ones thru this class reunion and want to thank the committee for putting it all together!
