Emily's Story
Life
After highschool I went to Fresno state for a semester then married a Canadian-American, Jared, in February 96 and moved to Vancouver Island. We had our first son, Chase, in 98 and then three girls, Nadya (2000), Helena (2002)and Mila (2004) and lastly another boy, Silas (2007). I've been at home since our first child was born and don't plan on pursuing full-time work/school till all the kids are in school. I recieved my Canadian citizenship in 2004. Jared graduated from the University of Victoria in spring of 2004. We moved to Provo, Utah in August of 2004 so my husband could obtain his Masters degree in Fine Art, he graduated in 2007. We continue to live in Utah while we pursue his career opportunities.
School
Who doesn't look back at highschool and think,"What was I thinking?!" Every teenager is self absorbed and overly dramatic. I totally was. I'm just glad I only had to go through that once. I knew lots of people, I wish I had developed more meaningful relationships and had a closer group of friends. But I keep in touch with a handful of friends who I love. I had great support and constant encouragement in highschool, from not only my friends but their parents and teachers too. Looking back I can't believe the people I had crushes on. I loved band and cross country. I'll always remember how the cross country girls would put ice in their sports bras while we ran in blistering hot weather down dry creek. Marching band was the best-especially band camp and competitions, we had the greatest director. Mr. Peck was the funniest math teacher. All the sports coaches were great. The teachers and coaches did so much. I know I could never be a teacher, especially to teenagers, couldn't handle all they have to put up with. I would love to do l...Expand for more
ots of things over again, but wouldn't, even if I could. By learning the hard way you're guaranteed not to make the same mistakes.
College
I only went to college for a semester and I totally took it for granted. Played way too much and didn't focus on my studies. I'm forever grateful for my friend Brandon who put me up while I found a place and totally helped me out, I was such a brat! I'm sure that it is always a crazy time in one's life. I didn't know what I was doing or where I was going. But it was exciting and everyday was a fun adventure-sometimes hard but never boring. After the first semester I got married and decided to move to where my husband was from, Canada. It took over a year to get my immigration paperwork processed and I then applied to the local college. My husband just started college as instead of taking out 2 student loans I decided to go ahead and start our family and put college on hold. Its something I know I can always go back to, but I can't always have children and I'm glad to have a young family. I know when I go back to college I can fully focus and pursue something I've had awhile to develop.
Workplace
The first job I ever had was the summer after highschool graduation as a hostess at a Japenese restraunt in downtown Annapolis-hated it I should have spent more time in DC touring the capital. I started studying music in college but got married after a semester, I resumed private lessons when I moved to Canada, but I couldn't work or go to school on my visitor's visa until my permanent residency went through. By then I decided to go ahead and start a family while my husband started his education. My husband has always been self-employed so I have great secretarial skills and I somehome mange to run a tight household.
