June's Story

I was born in Kittery Maine and raised in South Portland until my family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1977. I lived at 30 Pillsbury St. Next to the SPFD and attended Dora L Small School. From there to Mahoney Jr.High. I added my profile to SPHS because there was no listing for Mahoney. Although I didn't attend, I remembered so many friends I grew up with, and have always considered South Portland my true home, and miss it dearly to this day. Funny thing though, I stayed here when the rest of my family shortly moved back to Maine and Massachusetts. Only my brother Arthur and I remained. I was in love, and he lived on our couch for 6 months. After moving to Tucson I attended Flowing Wells High School. I continued to play basketball there until junior year when family circumstances made me leave. From there I got my GED and received an associate degree from Pima Community College. Loved learning so much, I became a "professional student" for many years while working full time. I worked for a local veterinarian for awhile, then worked as a car-hop and cook at the infamous Frontier Drive-In here in Tucson. Home of the root beer float....( No roller skates! Thank god) Next job was at University Medical Center in the Patient Nutrition Dept. Next up, I began my long career working for the City of Tucson as a custodian at CIty Hall for Mayor and Council. After 9 years I transferred to water meter reading for 6 years. Great exercise, lots of wildlife encounters (even rattle snakes, scorpians, killer bees and tarantulas!, to name the less favorable ones) The desert sun is killer here. Especially for this East Coast girl! Next up I applied to City Court in the records section, and then promoted to calendaring the judges and country's . From there I became a Supervisor in Judicial Section which entailed training and assigning bailiffs to cover all types of judicial proceedings from arraignment to jury trials. ons and filled in when we were short staffed. I Developed a yearly rotational calendar for each of the judges to evenly divide caseload. I continued to work as a Supervisor in nearly every section of the court along the way. I loved my jobs. All of them. I am now retired after 30 years with the City. I was married to my first husband for 11 yrs. And I am nearing 24 years married to my 2nd. I have no children, but raised my niece from age 5-12 until she moved back with my sister. She and my 1yr. old great-nephew are back here living with us while she earns her degree in electrical engineering. My 2 yellow labs are my other babies. I travel as much as possible. Usually at least one visit to ME. MA. And NH Every year. Vegas, California frequently, and Colorado and Florida once in awhile. Been to Mexico a few times as well. Next is a road trip through the Northwest, the only parts of this beautiful country I haven't seen. I love to dance! Any kind, however, country swing and two steppin' are my faves. I love live music and comedy...reading and writing are still a passion, as is art. I love to paint using watercolors...and photography. I like Vegas shows like Beatles Love, Zumanity, Mystere, O, and a bunch more! I've enjoyed taking my many nieces and nephews to Disneyland and Six Flags to ride the roller coasters. To see their joy and excitement has filled my heart. I love all kinds of music and artists. Classic rock, Country, Rap, Hip-Hop, Indie, Alternative, pop. I love to camp, swim, canoe, and hike (preferably back East) , although the beauty of the desert and the mountains surrounding Tucson are spectacular too. I'm not a TV fan, but I do watch The Voice and Big Brother. Occasionally the history channel. I Love authentic Mexican food! Hard to find anywhere but here, or in Mexico itself. I love tattoos and my art is always with me. Not just hanging on a wall. I'm still a little rebel and outspoken. Probably always will be.
