Christine's Story
Life
I attended Lincoln High thru my Junior year, and attended/graduated Fairfax High in Los Angeles in 1966. Finished a semester at City College of San Francisco, and made a 'brief visit' to my Dad in Los Angeles before starting a job as a Long Distance Operator in San Francisco to earn money for more college.....met my future husband and transferred my job to Los Angeles! Three months later, we got married - on July 22, 2018, we celebrated our 51st anniversary!
We have "put down roots" in Newport, R.I., Athens, GA., Newport Beach/Costa Mesa & Orange,CA..then San Antonio, TX, Cupertino & San Diego, CA. and back to Texas! Almost moved to West Yorkshire, England early in 2004 (for 3-4 years). Although the deal didn't pan out, I did enjoy three lovely weeks wandering around Wakefield, Bradford, Leeds, York et al. Truth be told, I was rather overwhelmed by the thought of having to sort everything in a house we've owned since 1986 into "ship, store, sell, donate"!
Our daughter is a free-lance web designer/developer and wild life/nature photographer, and Mom to our lovely, lively granddaughter.,
Our son is an artist and "stand-up philosopher", inventor of quirky objects and an escapee from retail sales! The pay was quite good, but the hours and life-style were horrid! He has f...Expand for more
ound his niche as a Technical Writer, bought his own home an adopted a cat to rule over it and him.. :-)
We have two fur-kids (cats) who allow us to wait on them hand & foot, plus possums, squirrels, raccoons,(semi-friendly) skunks, rabbits, blue jays, cardinals, woodpeckers and an occasional tortoise or snake who show up frequently at "Chez Blackburn" for snacks.
In August of 2005, I took a disability retirement from the job I'd held with our local school district for almost 17 years. Due to many years of rheumatoid arthritis, I was wearing leg braces and orthotics to minimize pain and maintain my balance and braces to protect my wrists. When local budget cuts put step-ladders and boxes of text-books on my job description, I decided it was time to spend my available energy and mobility on what I wanted to do!!
Guess what - Retirement is busier than working life-LOL! I belong to a local club of miniaturists;tend my gardens and feed a wide variety of wildlife; read; write (someday for publication, I hope); knit, crochet and generally keep myself moving!
*As of October 30th, 2008 : No more braces!! All ten toes were surgically removed, along with several large rheumatoid nodules. After the incisions healed, I discovered a wonderful world of nearly pain-free mobility!
