Amy's Story

Life When I was about eight I came to the shocking realization that not everyone lives in a cold climate, and someday vowed to 'get out of Dodge'. I have a new appreciation for beautiful coastal NH, now that I've moved to Arizona... but my blood's too thinned out from living in sunnier climes to ever go back for more than a vacation (sorry mom and dad!). After high school I headed South and then West, going to college first in West Virginia, then Santa Fe, NM and finally graduating (yes-I was on the 6-year plan) from UNC-Asheville (NC). I lived in Santa Cruz, CA for 5 years, and now live in sunny (it's a dry heat... er... really) Scottsdale, Arizona. I worked as a Park Ranger for Point Reyes National Seashore, Blue Ridge Park...Expand for more
way National Park, and California State Parks before landing in my current job as Interpretive (educational) Ranger for Maricopa County Parks. I love my job teaching about Desert Ecology, playing with snakes (mostly the nonvenomous kind), teaching Interpretive Ranger trainings and leading hikes. I never became a famous rockstar... but who knows... maybe Paula Abdul will retire from American Idol and I'll be the next judge... If you're still reading this, maybe I'll see you at the next reunion... Workplace I am very fortunate to love my job. I work for Maricopa County Parks and Rec as an Interpretive Ranger. It's beautiful where I work. So much life in the desert and every day I learn something new about this unique place.
