Michael's Story
Life
Hello everyone! I am currently married to a beautiful woman and we have 3 children, all boys, ages 9, 7 and 3. I currently work as a computer engineer specializing in UNIX operating systems. I am working with my wife to help her start up a jewelry business (on-line and craft shows). Alway looking around classmates to find people Ive gone to school with, was in the Air Force with or worked with in various parts of the country.
Workplace
I work in the computer industry and have for more than 20 years now. I have had the luxury of being able to work in many different environments from mainframe shops with 1000's of units, to smaller environments where there was myself and maybe 10 others working and running an ISP. I have also been able to choose to work as a contractor or keep a full-time job and reap the benefits that come with both.
Now that I have 3 kids, I find the urge to maintain a regular full-time positio...Expand for more
n and have moved into the corporate world as a Systems Engineer for Bank One and serve as part of a team that is their first line of defense to keeping their systems up and running. I miss the day to day of Systems Administration, but I have a good set of teammates and the work is rewarding while the hours flexible. I wouldnt change anything right now if I had the choice and am looking forward to moving up through the ranks of management inside the bank.
Military
I spent 3 or so long years in the military. Lets just say I enjoyed the job, but couldnt stand the hurry and wait issues...or the if it aint broke, lets fix it problems. I learned a great deal and made a lot of really fantastic friends, many of which I will never forget. I would offer advice that was not an option on the list of selections....if you want to join the military, then make sure that that type of life is really what you want, dont just join because...
