Henry's Story
Life
Born in Newark, NJ. Lived in the NY-Tri state area until I was 13. Mother got a job transfer to head a new office in Miami, FL. Graduated High School here in Miami and went to College at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. Returned to Miami and joined Hypercom. Have work-transferred to Phoenix, AZ (5 years during which I got married), Atlanta GA (1 year), and am now back in Miami, FL since 2001.
School
What can I say other than the fact that I was a DORK in school (Wasn't everybody?). I almost never missed school. I think I am a freak when I say that I actually for the most part enjoyed school. Summers were great, but after not doing anything for a month I got bored and actually looked forward to going back to school. I guess I miss the social aspect the most. I have lost touch with everyone from Elementary School (K-8) and am looking to get back in touch with those people. I still keep in touch with a handful of people (the ones that were my very best of friends) from high school and talk to them very frequently since I have now moved back to the city I went to High School in.
College
AHHH College. What an experience. I loved Gtech for the wonderful social experience I had. Being away out-of-state from Home is like nothing else. I was very sad when it was over and even tried to get a job in Atlanta to hang out with friends that were still in ...Expand for more
school. Unfortunately it was 1993 and if anyone remembers Bush was prez and the economy sucked like it does now with BUSH II... One thing I can say is that I was sure as heck GLAD when I was done... Gtech was murder with respect to academics! I sometimes wonder how I survived.
Workplace
After I graduated from Gtech in Dec 1993, I had to return to Miami since the economy was awful and I couldn't get a job in Atlanta. It took me about 1.5 months to get my job with Hypercom Latino America here in Miami, FL. I worked here for 2 years - mostly as a computer programmer. I was transferred to our corporate headquarters in Phoenix,AZ (1996) and lived there for nearly 5 years. I was transfered again to a new startup of Hypercom called EpicNetz in July 2000. Unfortunately things did not go well for .coms and after some massive layoffs I was "rescued" and allowed to either return to Phoenix (too hot) or go back to Miami. I chose Miami and moved during the week of Sept 11th, 2001! Obviously my flight was canceled so I had to drive instead. I have been here in the Miami office ever since. Currently waiting for my new home to build... [Update] The new house was finished after 1 year, 3 months (heathens!) and now living in it, happy as a clam. Unfortunately our Miami office is shutting down. I haven't lost my job, but will continue working from home for now. We'll see what happens.
