Beth's Story
Life
Some of you may remember me, I didn't spend a lot of time in any one school after Middle School.. but I still remember many of you :)
I was one of those kids who never quite fit in..
My report card was average, but I was scoring 'post-graduate' level on my standardized tests when I was in 8th grade. I wasn't into sports or after-school activities, I didn't have a lot of friends.. and I really, really didn't like school.
I spent about a year and a half at GHS, a year at Hammonasset School.. then a few months at 'alternative schools' before I quit entirely. Ironically, about a month after I quit, I got the results of my PSAT's.. and a National Merit Scholarship Commendation.
I finished high school by correspondence and started taking part-time college classes while working a full-time job.
I worked for 11yrs as a 911 dispatcher and Ambulance supervisor before turning my computer hobby into a career. Over the last 7 yrs I've been working in a series of technical management positions for a publicly traded company headquartered in East Haven, CT.
After all of these years, I'm still an odd-ball... but I've learned to use my unique talents and characteristics to my benefit, rather than trying to be someone I'm not.

ess, through being mistaken and wrong and an idiot and egotistical and aspiring and hopeful and believing and
confused. As he lay there he had gone back over his life, and bit by bit, had extracted from it some of the hard lessons of experience. Each thing he learned was so simple and so obvious once he grasped it, that he wondered why he had not always known it. Altogether, they wove into a kind of leading thread, trailing backward through his past and out into the future. And he thought now, perhaps he could begin to shape his life to mastery, for he felt a sense of new direction deep within him, but wither it would take him he could not say.

School
Education would be much more effective if its purpose was to insure that by the time they leave school every boy and girl should know how much they do not know, and be imbued with a lifelong desire to know it.
--- Sir William Haley

Now, here, you see, it takes all of the running you can do to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else you must run at least twice as fast as that.
- Lewis Carroll "Through the Looking Glass"
Workplace
There are really only two ways to approach life - as a victim or as a gallant fighter - and you must decide if you want to act or react, deal your own cards or play with a stacked deck. And if you don't decide which way to play with life, it always plays with you.
