Tom's Story
Hi Everyone!
The picture I chose to post is on the grounds of a small Bible College in the North Georgia Mts. When the Sun shines on the top of the waterfall it forms a perfectly proportional cross! My wife Phyllis & myself love to visit all the beautiful waterfalls nearby, especially the roaring, huge ones coming down from the North Carolina Mountains. Brevard County, NC has over 250 waterfalls on its map.
After I graduated from Rivet, I enrolled in the IU School of Business, majoring in Accounting mainly because it was something I have always had a natural talent for. I seem to want to know where every dollar goes! I have had quite a number of health challenges since the Rivet days. I had to drop out of IU for a few years in order to undergo 4 brain tumor (Acoustic Schwannoma type) surgeries, then a fifth after it recurred in 1996. The final procedure was a Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiation procedure at the University of Fla. At that time, we did not have a Gamma Knife in Augusta. at IU Med. Ctr., and was paralyzed on my left side and could not pronounce the words I wanted to say. I am so thankful to have recovered from that. It has left me with Chronic Depressive Syndrome, and I have had ADHD since childhood. The medications they have me on are quite effective.
Phyllis is also undergoing major health challenges. She recently found out she has a very aggressive form of breast cancer, her second round since being in remission for 14 years! I thought we had that one beat!
Her Oncologist had to stop her Chemotherapy because it was causing severe Neuropathy. She was losing her balance, falling down stairs, and her hands and feet are numb. The Oncologist gave her 8 treatments out of the 12 that are considered effective. She is very exhausted, and sleeps day and night. I hope the rest will give her immune system enough energy to fight off the rest of the cancer on her own. I will keep y'all updated.
