John's Story
After high school I dug ditches for Raymond Blair at the still existing trailer park on Ft. Worth highway. At 1.60 an hour it only took two weeks for enough to take off alone for Matamoros in my '54 Chevy for a week of R&R. It was fun, but what does an 18 year old know about border towns. I remember it was a long way to the beach. I brought back a few legal items and didn't do anything regretful. Entered court reporting college and worked two part-time jobs for the next 18 months. I barely passed the state test, but was able to get work and after just 10 months I opted for world travel by getting Merchant documents and sailed the 7 seas for the next 8 years. I married for the 1st time the 7th of those wonderful years. Decided Weatherford was a great place to have a family after five years and boy girl boy later in three years I was on my way. is now teaching in Taiwan where her brothers were born. The youngest is teaching on the island of Java and the oldest is a gifted photographer (unabashedlyprep.com) with two awesome boys of his own. After the divorce life changed and here I am living on the beach. Changing careers has it's challenges and rewards, but I'm still here with no regrets.
I always wanted to be free when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a cool idea. As it turns out, they were right. The wildest thing I did in school? I did mess up Mr. Schraubs hair once....but how wild is that. Oh, I did skip first period for 9 weeks before they caught me. They gave me the choice of licks or detention hall for 9 weeks. I elected the licks--get it over with--they elected dentition hall for some strange reason---I had thoroughly padded myself well that morning in anticipation of the awful torture, but it was all for not. DETENTION!. But alas, I quickly got a job at Piggly Wiggly and that ended the detention hall with coach Atchley.....I could tell he was disappointed. Oh, well.
