John's Story
So, I grew up in Sunnyslope and went to Desert View Elementary school through eighth grade. While all my pals went off to Sunnyslope High School, I was sent off to Brophy because mom thought I was heading down the wrong path. She shared that tidbit with me when I was in my early thirties. I made it through BCP with a lot of hard work and made many new pals. On to college...I attended ASU and graduated with a BS in finance. While there I began studying martial arts from this guy who taught out of his back yard. He became my father-in-law when his daughter, Michelle, said she would marry me. I worked in the insurance industry for eight years as premium auditor. In 1998 I decided to come home to play in the dirt with my kids and left the corporate rat race. As I adjusted to a new life I pursued becoming an educator. In ...Expand for more
2001 I became an eighth grade math teacher at Osborn Middle School. It was a fantastic seven years working at the middle school. In 2007 I moved to high school and began my work at North High. It was another fantastic seven years of being a teacher of mathematics. I wrapped up my time at North as the department chair for math and teaching Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate math classes to some really great kids. I pursued becoming an administrator through the iLeadAZ Aspiring Principal Program at ASU. During this chapter of life, I worked as a staff development specialist at South Mountain High School. Two school years later, I moved to Maryvale High School where I am currently serving as an administrator. After seven more trips around the sun, I was selected to be the 13th principal of Maryvale HS where I continue to serve in that role.
