Ginger's Story

I was born in San Diego and lived in Linda Vista, CA for the first 10-1/2 years of my life where I went to Kit Carson Elementary School. We moved to the Los Angeles metropolitan area when the houses we were living in were being sold. Actually we lived in Burbank with my grandparents for a short time, then Encino and ended up living in Reseda before my 11th Birthday. We lived there from June of 1952 until the fall of 1955 when we moved to Lancaster, CA because my Dad had gotten a job working for the government at Edwards Air Force Base. My family lived across the street from the East side Elementary school in an old farmhouse and actually got to experience raising a calf and having some chickens. Our calf was only 2 days old when Dad bought him at the auction in Lancaster. We named him Murphy...he was quite a character. He would get out of the corral and meet my Dad at the head of the driveway every day. We also ended up having two cats, one pure white and the other was pure black which we named Salt and Pepper. While we were living there I started going to church less than a mile from us where I met most of the kids that I ran around with during school. We lived there for just about two years before moving into town. I met my first husband Dick while going to church on the east side. We had a daughter Garnetta and a son Rick. Unfortunately our marriage only lasted for 7 years. After our divorce I was single for almost 3 years when I met my husband Bob! Bob and I met at Newport Dunes back bay area on February 24th...a day that I will always remember. Between us we had brought 8 kids to the beach because it was a very warm day and something that was inexpensive that we could each afford. Our kids started playing together as they were the only kids on the beach that day. My daughter asked if they could join us for lunch as their dad hadn't brought any for them! I told her to ask him if it was okay with him...he came over to ask if she had asked me first! 2 months and 2 days later we got married and have been married for almost 48 years. We combined our families... we have 3 sons, Nick, Rick & Joe and 3 daughters, Garnetta, Lynne & Ruth and was one of the original his, mine and ours families! Unfortunately, we lost our youngest son Joe in a Trucking accident in the oil fields in New Mexico almost 6 years ago January 20th. We ha...Expand for more
ve missed him every day since losing him....that year we also lost a very close friend to cancer not 5 months later and a total of 7 people that were a part of our lives that year...needless to say it was a very hard year. Bob and I now have 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and 1 Great great grandchild... With all of our children grown most of our vacations have been to visit with my Mom and step dad who lived in Roswell, NM. On December 2, 2006 my Mom passed away. She walked across the room from a chair to the couch to sit next to her hubby. She told him that her arms kind of hurt and she sat down the way that she always sat with one leg curled under the other one and she was dead. She was gone so quickly that they didn't even have time to get anyone there! My parents had always lived at least 3 hours away since I was 16, so all of our trips have been to visit with family. Most recently we would drive from Portland, OR area to Grand Junction, CO to visit with Bob's brother and his wife, then drive to Colorado Springs, to visit with our youngest daughter and her family...then on to Roswell to visit with my parents. Driving home from there we would drive across old route 66 through Flagstaff, AZ and visit with some friends that had moved to Lake Havasu City. These trips usually ended up being about 4000 miles each time and never getting to visit with anyone very long as there were always too many people to stop and visit and never enough time! Well I thought our trips would be different now with both of our parents gone so we will finally get to take a real vacation where we can actually sight see. I am hoping that we will now get to take some trips to not only the east coast but hopefully to Europe...but, with our daughter Ruth and her family still living in Colorado Springs we will continue our trips, but without going to New Mexico. January 20, 2010 started out as a day of hope for the future for our son Joe...he had his third interview with a trucking company where he would not only have a 401K, medical coverage, but, also dental care which he was looking forward to. Bob and I are both still in business for ourselves so our time is our own. Bob has had his business for over 33 years and I have been a Mary Kay Consultant for almost 29 years. We both love what we do and neither of us consider ourselves as working!
