ably because a general officer at NORAD put in a good word for me. Anyway, I've completed many tours of duty with EUCOM, V Corps in Heidelberg (got to see the ancestral Burgstahler homestead while in GMY). After 9/11 I served at US Space Command until 03 and then went back to V Corps with temporary duty in Iraq. Finished off my Reserve career in 04-05 at NORAD in Colorado and retired on 1 May. After Hurricane Katrina hit that year LTG Honore wanted a historian to cover the huge military effort, so I applied and he selected me. Have been working at Fort Gillem (First Army HQ) since early Jan. 06 and expect to be off duty in June. My volunteers and I are working on several manuscripts on military relief efforts. If anyone wants to get published, or at least get your name in print, I've got plenty of work for you!
Oh, kudos to Mel Kriz for teaching me a very useful skill that has served Uncle Sam and I well. And to think we used to give him so much grief about NEBRASKA and then I became a Cornhusker! I always was kinda corny!
