Laura's Story

Life After 25 years of being away, living in Montana, 2 years and California for 23 years,I have come full circle and returned to Spokane (July 2004). I felt it necessary to be near my mother since my father's passing. It's been a tough year adjusting, making new friends and praying my teenage daughters will make friends to help ease the pain of leaving the only life they've ever known. My sons have done well with the change. I've been in the work force for the last 8 years. I waited until my youngest child entered school. I started out at 3 Day Blinds, and became a manager. Then went to work for my Chiropractor for almost 2 years. I was then offered a job at the new high school in Greenfield, CA. which is where we lived. That was a great job. I was the receptionist and ASB Clerk. After 3 and a half years I was promoted to principal's secretary. I loved it! I was going to retire from that job. But God had other plans for me and here I am!It's tough getting a decent job with decent wages here in Spokane. I've been working at Avista Advantage since September and enjoyed the people and the company but felt I needed something with more responsibility. I will be starting at the local newspaper next week and am looking forward to being in the downtown environment. I have been married to a wonderful ...Expand for more
and fun man, Mario for 27 years. He keeps me laughing as I tend to be too serious. We have 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls which has occupied most of my time. They are our pride and joy. We have been through little league baseball, cross country, track, wrestling, and lots of music. 2 of my boys like to write songs, and often their friends will come over to jam. The girls are also on the creative side but are more into art. My oldest daughter became a captain in the army this June 2005. She is currently in Seoul, Korea where she met her husband who just happens to also be from Washington. I remember thinking when I was young that I wanted to grow up, get married and have kids. Well I hit a point where I realized I did that, Now What? That's when I started working! Other than being with my family I enjoy Karaoke with my friends but haven't done that since moving to Spokane. In California the Karaoke bars are all smoke free and since I'm allergic I haven't been to any Karaoke places here. Going to the movies occasionally when there's a good one showing, and playing games with friends and family has always been fun, with occasional camping trips. I'm starting to marry off my children and look forward to being a grandmother. I have 1 granddaughter. Life has been great and I see it can only get better!
