Ron's Story
Life
As of December, 2006:
Still married after 26 years (HELP!! PLEASE!!!). I love having adult kids (not an oxymoron these days). 23-year-old Nikki is a director, wardrobe wench & all-around theater gypsy in NYC. Alex (20) is pre-law at EMORY UNIVERSITY in Atlanta.
I still play music, and just finished an acting "gig" for the first time in many years. The older I get, the more I feel like who I used to be.
I still see Pete Rothbart, Stan Schapiro & Don Kent (once all at the same time a few years ago). I've been living in the lower Hudson Valley for 25 years, after almost 10 years in California & Louisiana.
APRIL 2008
Well, after going "back to high school" (as my daughter calls it) by getting involved again in "drama" and then rock'n'roll (if you've seen my profile), I now find myself in my "twenties" phase. Just like I did in those years, I'm back to playing jazz (with a Brooklyn band called The Walker Street Orphans), and playing in local musical theater orchestra pits.
At this rate, I'll start having kids again in about 7 years.
MAY 2008
Alex graduated from EMORY (no mo...Expand for more
re tuition!); Ellen has become an X-ray tech. Nikki is directing for the Looking Glass Theater (NYC). I'm a partner in a coffeehouse in Northern Westchester where I perform and produce shows. Just put together a house band for a benefit with a full-blown lineup: 2 gtrs, bass, drums, piano/organ and a horn section. Also play with a jazz septet in Brooklyn, and formed a trio for "casuals" (cocktail receptions, etc). So- back to the future? Forward into the past? Anyway, I'm really happy.
MAY 2009
It's all about motion- some forward, some back.
My son Alex is moving to New Orleans to begin Tulane Law School, and will be sharing a house about 5 blocks from the apartment I lived in circa 1973.
The recession (depression?) is not treating us kindly, but we will prevail. I hope.
The Brooklyn band is no more; I miss the music, friendship & general weirdness that are the best things about having a band. So, I pick up the odd gig here & there to try to stay in the mix. The Coffeehouse is still my main outlet.
I still think you'll be happy if you do what you love.
Or, maybe rob a bank.
