Barry's Story

Life Believe it or not, I ended up becoming a Teacher. I wasn't the best student in the world while I was at Mac, with the exception of Mr Beazeles Speech class. After the Navy, I went to UT but didn't finish. I married the former Laura Guerrero, a graduate of Austin High. I worked for a few gov't agencies then went back to school and got my degree in Anthropology and Archeology and worked as an archeologist. I later went back to school and got my teacher certification. I worked at Eagle Pass, Columbus, and Presidio, Texas schools. Laura and I got a divorce and my mother passed away. I went to Arizona and taught on the Navajo Reservation for two years. The summer of 1997 I took a trip to Asia and traveled to several countries. In Hong Kong, I met a beautiful young woman from the Philippines and decided to get a little closer to her, so I got a job in Taiwan teaching english. Maita and I got married in the Philippines and I ended up staying in Taiwan for about 6 years. I am now back in the US, and returned to teaching on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. ne is coming to see the Grand Canyon, let me know as I live pretty close to the park. I'll be glad to show you around. Barry Well an update is needed. I decided to retire from teaching at the end of the schoolyear in May, 2008. I then got a job as a Park Ranger at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia. That is a dream job for me. Maita and I are enjoying the island life. Chincoteague is famous for the wild ponies on the island of Assateague. Some of you may have read the famous childrens book, "Misty of Chincoteague." I just became a member, so ya'll can email me. Well, we moved back to Austin when my contract with the Park Service was up. We bought a small old house in North Austin and have been working on fixing it up. I am retired now. Some of you may remember my younger brother, Larry. He has been very successful in business, and still runs a large corporation in Houston. He has a large lake house on Lake Travis, which I am now the property manager. He uses it when he comes to Austin. My wife also became a citizen and is working on getting her nursing license. That's about it, I'm still kicking, still alive, and still funny. Barry
