John's Story

Hi Guys, June 14, 2008 Believe it or not it's 46 years this week that we graduated from BDHS. Pretty amazing. Well here goes. After I left Manhattan College in 1966, I was commissioned in the Air Force and spent the next 7 years on active duty. I flew KC135 s and C130 s and spent most of my time in Taiwan/VietNam and a brief stint in Plattsburg, NY. After getting back to the US in 1974, you couldn't buy an airline job. The fuel embargo had just hit and airline jobs rare because of all the wartime returning pilots. I managed to land a job with an airfreight company that specialized in 'unusual' international air cargo and for the next 13 years I managed to spend too many nights in the third world. (Jim McGreevy, our classmate, was ...Expand for more
also a pilot with this airline but that is another story). In 1986, I hired on with America West Airlines and that morphed into US Airways and that is where I finished my career. The best thing that happened to me was Lynn, my wife. We were married in 1982. Three children, Ann, Kathleen and Patrick. The girls have finished college in Montreal and Dublin, Ireland respectively and Patrick is starting college in August. It should go really easy for him because he knows 'EVERYTHING'. I guess this is payback for what I did to my parents. All in all we are very lucky if we are reading and writing this note. For now, know that I look back at 152nd and Amsterdam with fondness and hope that you all are doing well. Your brother, John Rogan
