Samantha's Story

Life I was born March 5, 1979. I was a very sick baby for a long time. When I was three months old, my doctors discovered my heart defect. Surgery was ruled out at that time. I went home. I was fine until I turned 11. I developed a dry cough. My mother took me to the doctor. To make a long story short, I had open heart surgery on June 20, 1991. I had a lot of emotional problems afterwards for about 9 years. My pastor helped me out of it. I've finally got my head screwed on straight and I can see a successful future for myself. After I left St. Collette in 1988 I started going to St Frances of Rome in Cicero. I was absolutely miserable. I was on the honor roll a lot though. I graduated in 1993. Then I went to Trinity High School in River Forest. I learned a lot there, especially how to stand up for myself. By the time I was a senior no one got away with treating me like crap. I graduated from high school in 1997. I've been going to Morton College ever since. I'm finally going to graduate and leave there next May. I have an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts, a career certificate for Licensed Practical Nursing, and I'll be receiving my Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Nursing next May. I'm so happy. I still live with my parents but I hope to move out shortly after my 25th birthday. I don't have a boyfriend and I really don't want one right now. I don't have any children either. Update 9/6/04: I've moved out on my own. I have my own apartment, my own car, my own life, and my own BILLS. Having my own place is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, but it's so totally worth it. Still don't have a boyfriend. Still don't want one. Still don't have any kids. Still don't want any of those either. I am truly single and am loving every minute of it. Update 7/12/05: I live in Aurora now and work in Naperville. I'm a pediatrics home health nurse. My patient is 7 years old. He is absolutely adorable. I love him so much. Going to work every day is something I look forward to now. I'm always excited to see him. Still don't have a boyfriend or kids, but I really want both now. I don't want to be alone for the rest of my life. Upda...Expand for more
te 12/13/05: Still live in Aurora. Still a pediatrics home health nurse. I currently have 7 kids that I take care of. I work in Aurora, Bolingbrook, Rolling Meadows, and Streamwood. Still have dreams of being a wife and mother, but I still haven't met Mr. Right. Update 4/16/06: Still live in Aurora. Still a pediatrics home health nurse, but starting at a new company on 4/19/06. My first child lives in Bolingbrook. There are two other children in Naperville that I will be working with also. I still have dreams of being a wife and mother, but Mr Right is elluding me. I'll never give up hope of finding him. He's out there somewhere waiting for me too. Update 12/17/10: It's been a while since I updated my profile. I am so over finding Mr Right. The Bible says not everyone is meant to get married. As far as my nursing career, I am still an LPN, but am going back to school starting next summer to become an RN. I continued working in pediatric private duty until 7/08. I was kicked off a patient's case by his dad because I was just too emotionally attached to my patient and was getting too involved with family issues. I was devastated. I still think about that family a lot, but I'm getting better. I only think about them every OTHER day instead of EVERY day. I hope I never forget that family. Even though things ended badly, they were an awesome family to work with and I'm forever grateful to them for allowing me to be a part of their daily lives for 18 months. After leaving that family, I decided to take a break from pediatric private duty. I needed time to figure out if that's really where God wanted me to use my gifts and talents. I worked in an assisted living facility for a while and then I worked at a residential facility for developmentally disabled adults. I ended up going back to pediatric private duty. The reason why I keep going back to Peds private duty is because I enjoy the one on one with my patient and I really enjoy being a part of miracles. Every child I've ever worked with has been a miracle. Where there's life, there's hope. I hope and pray that I'll be able to continue touching the lives of these precious children for years to come.
