Anne W's Story

Life After graduation; went to business school. Got married in 1960; first child, Charlotte Anne, born 1961; moved to Indiana in 1961 & from there to Calif. Lived in Venice, about 2 blocks from the beach. Went to the outdoor bleachers and watched the movie stars arrive for the Academy Awards in March 1962--worked in a small shop called the Parasol in Brentwood, where the owner made his own ice cream in the Basement. Spilled a coffee milks-shake in the lap of Randolph Scott. He was very kind about it and left me the largest individual tip I had ever gotten at that time. In fall of 1962 we returned to TN and then ultimately moved to CT. - that's a story you can read in my planned book!! Second child, Michael Nelson, born 1965; Separated from Spouse 1968 and moved back to TN. in 1969. Worked 25 years for State of TN in various positions. Retired in 2000. Am currently volunteering as a tutor (I use that term cautiously) in the Metro middle schools through a Senior Citizens program. I help 2nd graders who are slow readers and have little help at home, sorta like an adopted granny!! I am also researching my geneaology & planning how to get started writing a book. I have no grandchildren but dote on many great & greatgrand neices & nephews. I always look forward to my class reunions and have only missed one since we started having them. Workplace I worked full time and went to Business school part time, right out of high school, I had several jobs in the 3 yr period before I got married, after marriage and the birth of a child I did not work for several years.. After 8+ years of marriage + 2 children I separated and then it became a necessity to work. I held several waitress jobs, I also worked at a shoe factory and a rubber hose mfg. plant.. After a couple of years of struggling, I...Expand for more
went back to school for a refresher 'job readiness' course. I was employed by the State of TN in 1972. I worked in 6 different depts and in several different job titles. [In Government you often have to transfer Depts to get a promotion]. After 2 stints of employment, which totaled 25 yrs. service, I retired in 1999. While working full time for the State, I held part time jobs as food waitress/coctail waitress/bartender; mostly in private clubs and for on call parties.. This was necessary because of being a single parent... I am now considering going to work part time again... maybe in a book store, since I love books..I have done some volunteer work at an elem. school & am currently doing genealogical research & organizing to write a book. 2008 update: I am still 'planning' to write that book, but other things keep getting in the way. Last year was an exciting one; I attended my 50th High School reunion an wore the Poodle skirt which I could not afford in the 50s to one of the events. I also turned 70 last year and plam on being around a good bit longer, with the help of the Good man upstairs! I have moved into a large house w/ my son and DIL and am doing a lot of cooking, which I enjoy. I am also still quite busy with my genealogy searching and have close to 3,000 names in my FTM database now. It is getting a little large, but the more you look the more relatives pour forth!!! I am the 10th of 12 with 6 siblings still around, so that makes for a large # of relatives! Of course, in the family as well as my Class family, some are going home almost weekly!! That's how it is when you get into the Golden years. I am still enjoying life, however and that to me is a Great Blessing from the Lord. Would be happy to receive e-mails from anyone who wishes to correspond. Anne
