Carol's Story
I love to travel and have spent time in Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and two-thirds of the United States. However, I have always returned home to Michigan.
I have worked as a psychologist in various capacities for 30 years. I met my first husband, Chuck Ellstein, as a freshman at University of Michigan, and married him when I was 20 (thus, totally screwing up my college dating years!). I continued my education and eventually earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Michigan State University. We raised one daughter, Melissa, in Southfield and East Lansing.
In 1999, Chuck and I decided to buy a vacation house on a small lake in northern MI. Two weeks before the closing, he had a fatal heart attack at age 49. My first step as a single woman was to buy the lake house for myself. Friends and family questioned my sanity at the time, but I did what I thought needed to be done, and I've never looked back.
I found solace and a whole lot more in my rural home, and relocated there in 2002. My continuing education has included introductions to golf, hunting and snowmobiling; and advanced instruction in fishing, boating, ka...Expand for more
yaking, swimming, snowshoeing, walking, bicycling, golf carts, trucks, social media, blogging, and online dating. In early 2004, I met Joe Wildberg, a widower whose wife died, amazingly, from a heart attack at age 49. We were married in late 2005.
Joe is retired, but I'm still working. I have an independent psychology practice in Indian River and a consulting behavioral medicine practice with a primary care physicians group in Harbor Springs, Joe and I both volunteer with community, professional, and religious organizations. We spend a few weeks each year at his vacation home in Upper Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, take an annual two-week traveling vacation, and enjoy frequent visits with family and friends.
My daughter is a stay-at-home social worker, wife, and mother of two young sons in Syracuse NY. Joe's daughter is an insurance specialist, wife, and mother of one young son in Adrian MI. Being a grandmother is, simply, the best!!
Despite Chuck's untimely death and a few other bumps and bruises along the way, the years since high school have mostly been a lively jaunt. To quote Joe Walsh: "life's been good to me so far."
