My oldest son took me to Israel for Easter! It was the most amazing trip of a lifetime...sans the plane ride over and back.
This is the first Easter since the 1800's that Easter and Passover fell on the same week end. It won't happen again for another 220 years. It was just a fluke that we were there on this tour at this time.
Israel is a beautiful country between the valley's, hills, mountains and desert. Scenery and vista's that you couldn't imagine. And to see the Holy Land that we have all read about since childhood was like watching something come alive. Instead of black and white there it was in living color.
The first thing I thought of when we were riding from Ben Gurion Air port to our first hotel was how lush and green everything was. The next morning as we were traveling from Capernaum to Tiberias was "boy, Jesus did a LOT of walking, bet he wore out plenty of leather sandals". nt you can't believe the distance that they walked. The hilly terrain with the Cyprus and Olive trees interspersed on it you could just visualize Jesus resting under the Olive tree to get out of the mid-day sun.
We were very fortunate that we had the tour guide that we did. We got to see all of the important Christian Holy Sites in the time we were there. Easter Sunday morning we were at the Jordan River and many in our group were baptised. A very special time. that same day we also visited the site where Jesus was resurected and we had communion.
It was a fabulous trip, the Western Wall was more spiritual and moving than you can begine to imagine. The Garden of Getheseme like wise and the Temple Mount.
This would be never ending....so let me say in closing if any of you get a chance to travel to the Holy Land, no matter what your religion or none, I think you will find it inspirational, emotional and the trip of a life time. To be where it all began...awesome.
