Cindy's Story
After graduating from Windham in 1988, I went to Southern in New Haven, where I received my BS in Sociology in 1992, eventually going on to get my Master's in Social Work in 1999. I met my husband, Michael, working the summer breaks at the A&P in Storrs and we started dating in 1991. I moved around a little, from Norwalk to North Haven and then to Branford with Michael after we got engaged in 1996. We finally married in October 1998 (I was determined to get my MSW!!). We moved to Oakdale, CT (part of Montville, about 5 miles from the Crystal Mall in Waterford) in 2000 and had our son, Tucker in April 2002 (Hard to believe he's just turned 6 and almost done with kindergarten!!). I worked 13 years in nursing homes in West Haven, New Haven, Old Saybrook, Mystic and finally Westerly RI before I couldn't take it any more and moved onto Home Care, which is a lot more flexible and I enjoy a lot more. I do a lot of counseling and setting up services so people can stay home. I find it to be very rewarding! I also keep busy with Tucker who loves Star Wars and anything construction. He's also trying tee-ball for the first time (Michael is coaching his team). I try to be involved as much as I can with his school, helping out at Family Nights and Book Fairs and am running for VP of the PTO for next year. It's not the life I imagined but then what did we know back in high school?!?! I just know I wouldn't have it any other way!
