John's Story
School
I have great memories of many teachers at Alcott - Ms Lyons, Ms Geddons, Ms Gronquist, kindergarten - Miss Slavinsky - Ms Holmberg.
At Lane Tech my favorite teacher was Mr Carroll -English Poets. He was once marine sargeant in WW2, yet he could read a sonnet or soliliquoy by Shakespeare and you could just see his soul pour out. What a great teacher! Great memories at Lane. But, it was an all boy school at the time - and we had to swim naked in gym class! That was the 60's - the heck with your insecurities and what doesn't kill you - gives you nightmares! hah-ha !
Workplace
In 1973 I moved to Denver with a country rock group - Wildflower.
We played all original music written by our lead guitarist - John Burns (son of Jethro Burns of Homer & Jethro and nephew to Chet Atkins).
It was a tumultuous time. The music and cameraderie was great..but it wasn't so good for the 2 wives and kids left waiting while we played ski r...Expand for more
esorts and clubs. Eventually, that broke us up. Too bad. The songs were worth airplay and John Burns was one heck of a guitar player!
The band broke up (as many before) so decided to return to school and get a profession. Devry, electronics, then started at Searle Radiographics - part of Searle Drug, met Don Rumsfeld as he was CEO. Searle sold our division to Siemens. Had an opportunity to move to California and took it. That was 33 years ago. Still with Siemens as a project manager. Still love to play rock & roll with friends and part time band thing. My son, Nick is a great piano player and getting very good on drums too. He's going to be a freshmen at colegge in Fall. Just doesn't know which one yet. My daughter, Alex is a graphics artist and student at Moorpark College.
Susie works part time for an accountant(full time during tax season).
That's about it...probably can't retire until I'm 70 but happy to still have a job!
