Joy's Story
I was born and raised in Milwaukee. I attended Longfellow Elementry school from Kindergarten to 6th grade (around 1962-1969). I then moved to Bethany Lutheran (1969-1971) for Grades 7 and 8. From there I attended Milwaukee Lutheran High School from 1971-1975. After High school attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, where I graduated in 1979.
After graduation I stayed on and worked as a Registered Nurse in a medical surgical unit for approxiamately 5 years. I then completed an Intensive Care Nursing course and then moved to an Intermediate Care/Step Down Telemetry Unit at Deaconess Hospital. usy ICU at the Nairobi Hospital. I worked in ICU for 8+ years and then in the Post Basic Nursing department of the School of Nursing for another 1+ years before leaving to work with and manage my husband's clinic. I also co ordinate a chairty Open Heart Program for needy Kenyan Children.
In 1986 I married Dr John Kariuki, a General/Cardiothoracic Surgeon. We met during his 2 year Fellowship in Milwaukee. We have 2 sons, Nicholas and Allen who are now both in university in the US. I currently am working with my husband managing his clinic and doing the small nursing duties that arise there. We have many domestic animals - 8 dogs, 3 cows and some goats.
Oh boy almost forgot, we have 2 sons, Nicholas and Allen. Nick is 23 and Al is 21 now and currently both in university.
