Marie's Story

"My Story" Wow.... I don't even really know where to begin here. However I have committed to making this the "Reader Digest", version for those who are interested. I graduated high school just a few months later than everyone else. I had my son Sky, finished my remaining credits, and graduated through the college. I then married a guy I had known all my life. Okay, we all make mistakes! Was divorced early, thought I leared my lesson, and moved on. After graduating I returned to Olympic College once again to take some additional basic classes I felt I needed. I worked several jobs during this time and then after I completed my classes I landed a job as the Mason County Literacy Coordinator. It was during that time I became eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend college full time. I was awarded the scholarship, and the following quarter I entered Olympic College in Bremerton with my eye on an associates degree for chemical dependency counseling. I finished my first year and started my internship working for a well known recovery center. Even though during this time my personal life was terrible my professional life was great. I guess everything happends for a reason. After my internship with the recovery center I was offered a permanent position in the detox unit, but declined because I didn't really feel that I was making much of a difference. I saw the numbers of people who would go through recovery only to return a few weeks later. I realized then that you can't force someone to be sober, they have to want it for themselves. It never made much sense to me that our court system orders a person to recovery. In most cases they are waisting tax dollars. It all got rather frustrating and in the end I gave up! I decided some where along the line that I needed to go back to waitressing long enough to figure out what I wanted to do next. I waited tables and bartened for a while before I met my second husband. I married Todd in 92 and moved to Ohio in 93. Lived in Ohio long enough to find out my new husband was quite an abusive individual. So, I hit the end of the road with him and decided that I would move back to WA instead of staying in OH. Even though I had met some really cool people there, I just wanted to come back to my family. I continued working in bars and ...Expand for more
waitressing all during my OH days. The funny thing was, I really didn't mind it. I actually liked going to work then, and the money didn't hurt either. After my divorce from Todd I swore off men forever! Of course that didn't happen, but that was my plan. I came home from OH needing to find a job quick. Money was running out, and I needed to get some fast! I started working at a country club and met a guy I really liked. He was a bit older but he was great to hang out with. He ended up feeling more like a father figure than anything, so we parted ways and moved on. I met my current husband (Bob) in 1995. He moved to WA from MN. Bob's a truck driver and at the time worked for his father's company brokering and driving for him. Bob and I started our own trucking business and I went on the road with him. We were on the road for 8 months straight and I was over it! After the driving was over for me I came back home and Bob has been on the road ever since. He's defiantly not your typical "trucker", no offense to those who are, but he enjoys working out way more than eating. Boy, I wish I had that problem. I was very reluctant to get married again, in fact told Bobby no several times before finally saying yes, after our oldest daughter Ally was born in 98. SO we got married and bought a house back in my old neighborhood. We've raised the kids here ever since. We had our youngest daughter Cheyenne in 02. Today, I do a number of different things. First I am a mother to my kids. It hasn't always been easy but thats the commitment that I made. I don't work a job that takes me away from them. They are my priority and I think it shows. I am a major soccer mom. Both my girls LOVE soccer. I don't know where they got their love for the game, but I love watching them play. My oldest is a goalie for the South Mason Sting. I also volunteer in their classes. The girls are really busy and keep me going. I am currently working for my mothers water system management company, H2O Management Services, out of Grapeview. I love my job. I also trade foreign currency part time and love it as well. I love being a mom, I love my family. I'm Lucky. Theres just no doubt, if I had it all to do over again, I WOULD! I guess that's about it. I know it's not the most entertaining story, but its mine. =)
