Euan's Story
Life
I'm married to a lovely woman named Carolyn. We have 4 fabulous children (of course I'm unbiased). I live in Christchurch, where I earned a PhD in Forestry in 1992, and I work as a professor at the University of Canterbury. I still enjoy playing soccer, and I put eyeball to eyepiece to appreciate the cosmos whenever I find the time and weather. I was a semi-pro musician for ten years or so.
School
From ages 5-7 I was at Waterloo Primary, in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, then my family moved to Switzerland. After a couple of years at College du Leman in Versoix I went to the International School of Geneva until grade 10. From grades 10-12 I was at Montclair High School, in New Jersey. What a time - the 60s flower generation mixed with history from Miss Brubinski. I met some fine people and I often wonder what they've done with their lives.
College

e most of us survived. I really enjoyed class, though, and what I learned at the University of Maine has served me well in life. I remember plenty of parties, cruising around frozen lakes in the middle of the night, Curt White's very sociable room, and particularly Val McIntosh - she was/is one really neat person. Hi Val, write to me if you read this...
I went back to University in 1989 as an adult with a wife and 2 kids. It was a great opportunity to spread my wings, and despite a low income I look back on it with a smile.
Workplace
They say this is a work bio, and I guess I work darn hard, but I enjoy it, too. I spent 2 years as a forester in a large plantation in New Zealand before moving into science. 12 years and 1 redundancy later I was back in University doing a PhD, and now I'm a full professor at the School of Forestry, University of Canterbury. I love teaching, enjoy my postgrads, and live for research.
