Cynthia's Story

Life Got married and divorced in college. Moved across the U.S. on a whim. Met the man of my dreams in D.C. Got a cool job. Got bored. Moved to the South on a whim. Now looking for life's next challenge... Update....got married on the beach in Florida on April 16, 2004 to Paul Marsh of Maryland. It was our five year anniversary, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Update Sept. 2004....we survived hurricanes Charley and Frances in Florida without any major damage. Now we're trying to figure out which is worse: hurricanes in Fla or earthquakes in Cali. I think we'll stick with hurricanes, because at least you have some sort of chance to prepare for it. Update Apr.2006...I always said I would never move home, but due to an opportunity we couldn't pass up, I am now. My husband and I purchased an old 155 acre fish farm south of Chico, CA with my parents. We plan to operate as a fish farm, and plant a vineyard. In a year or two we plan to build a winery, and possibly a restaurant. The fish farm part will stock fish for ponds, and be open to the public for catch and release starting May 2006. I hope to find a job as an urban planner, which isn't very common in rural Butte County. Update Jan. 2007...Moved home, and really didn't enjoy the experience. The job market in Butte County is awful, and the lack of culture is just too much for this small town girl turned city woman. We're now selling our fish farm/vineyard in Chico that we bought with my parents, and hope to make enough of a profit to purchase land in Livermore's wine region to fulfill our winery/vineyard dream. That all will take some time, so in the meantime, I'm working as a t...Expand for more
ransportation planner in Oakland, and Paul is working in sales for Kendall Jackson's wine distribution company. We're renting in Livermore until we figure out where we'll land permanently. Our lives thus far have had so many twists and turns - who knows what will happen next. Update Jan. 2008...Due to my need to not wake up at 5:30a.m., my husband and I decided to take advantage of the great foreclosure bargains in Stockton and buy a home closer to work. Being a planner, I absolutely despise the thought of living in the midst of suburban sprawl, but central Stockton has some really great historic neighborhoods around UOP that are on their way up. Definitely the place to look for real estate investments. Our fish farm in Chico is still on the market, which was to be expected. Until it sells, we're just going with the flow. College Updated January 2007....I finally graduated in May 2006 with a degree in Environmental & Growth Management Studies. From 2006.....I'm now obsessed, okay not really, with New Urbanism and designing livable communities. I look at the world in a different way. I was so completely bored out of my mind as a paralegal, and going back to school was the best thing I ever did. It recharged my creative side, and infused me with the knowledge I needed to put my creativity to good use. Although boring in the end, my legal experience has helped me to be super organized, and I learned a lot of things I never would have elsewhere. Although it's taken 3 colleges in 3 states (CA-MD-FL), 2 majors (poli sci & growth mgmt.), and 2 minors (criminal justice & business) to finally graduate, I wouldn't have done it any differently.
