Carol's Story
Life
After graduating from Marian in 1963 I went to Teacher's College for 1 year. I then taught Gr. 1 in Cumberland House for 1 year. Following this I returned to the University of Regina for 1 year and then taught Gr. 2 in Uranium City for 1 year. I did a year of substitute teaching in Regina until I got a job as a social worker in Weyburn/Estevan for 2 1/2 years. The lure of travel finally won out and I left for Europe in the fall of 1970. I spent 2 1/2 years travelling and working in Europe making Heidelberg, Germany my headquarters. I met somebody in Heidelberg and we returned to Canada in the spring of 1973 to be married. After living in Regina for 1 year, we moved to Calgary where we lived for 3 years. In Calgary I worked as a Secretary and then started teaching English as a Second Language to adults which I thoroughly enjoyed. in 1977 I returned to Regina after separating from my husband. taff Development Officer. In the summer of 1979 I met my late husband, Dennis who was living in Winnipeg. We dated until 1980 when I moved to Calgary. We got married in 1981. I taught ESL again to adults in Calgary. When I became pregnant in the fall of 1981, we decided to move to Winnipeg so that we could raise our family close to relatives. Dennis opened up an optical dispensary in Winnipeg, Tower Optical, which he operated until he became ill in 2008 and passed away in 2011. I have 2 - Trevor, born in 1982 and Alyssa in 1984. . I stayed home to raise my children and when Alyssa was in Gr. 6 I did some work as a substitue teaching assistant. Then when she was in Grade 8 I started working as a Constituency Assistant for our local MLA. I have been employed as such ever since and just went part time last summer. I have 2 granddaughters through my daughter and son-in-law born in 2014 and 2016.
My mother passed away in 1985 unexpectedly with a bad asthma attack and her heart gave out. My father passed away in 2006. My brother, Jim lives in Granby, Quebec where he's been for years and has several jobs.
