Beverly's Story
Life
I am married and have three sons and one daughter. My son-in-law has been in the Army for 20 years (Special Forces). I have eight grandchildren (five girls, two boys). The oldest is 15 and the youngest, nine months.
I really enjoy being with my children. I traveled Europe with my sister's 17 year old daughter and my daughter and her family for three weeks in Dec. 2004 and Jan. 2005. We stayed in Venice and Florence, Italy, and then spent Christmas in Vienna, Austria. My niece had to fly back home to finish her senior year of high school but my daughter and I flew to London for four days while her husband and son went skiing in Germany.
After returning to the States last summer, my daughter surprised me with round trip tickets to Nashville to visit her last February. They live in Hopkinsville, Kentucky but Nashville is the nearest large airport, about an hour from where they live in Kentucky. We visited the home of Andrew Jackson. It was such a neat feeling to be standing in his home and looking at the bed that he died in. What a piece of history.
I drive to Las Vegas frequently to visit my younger sister, Darlene. She and her 19 year old daughter and I like to go to the shops in the hotels. There are always lots of things to do there.
One of my son's lives near San Francisco, one lives in Riverside, California and the other lives in San Diego, CA. My son in Riverside and his family spends lots of time with my husband and I. My son's wife is half Thai and she cooks the most wonderful things for me. She is always bringing me flowers or some sort of small gift. We get along really well and enjoy spending time together.
We just had a swimming pool and spa built in our backyard so I'm hoping to see lots of my grandchildren this summer. I really enjoy swimming and now that I'm getting older I think the exercise will be good for me. I raced my twelve year old granddaughter a few weeks ago (the length of the pool)...Expand for more
, and I tied her so I'm not quite over the hill yet!
My husband wants to see the Mayan ruins in Central America so pretty soon I'll have to plan a trip to Belize. There are really large Mayan ruins in the jungles of Guatemala. They are called the Tikal ruins. I'm afraid that if we don't go soon, we won't be able to climb all of those stairs that go up the sides of the structures. We can take an overnight trip there and then back to Belize. I really don't want to spend much time in Guatemala. I keep putting off planning the trip because I hate to sit on planes for long periods of time. My back starts hurting really bad.
My family had a family reunion in Phoenix last year. My uncle, who is 92 years old, came all the way from Kingston, Oklahoma. He had some great old pictures of our grandparents and aunts and uncles. It felt really good to connect with family again after so many years. It was just my father's side of the family that attended. Between my dad and his two brothers and one sister, there were 22 Bourland cousins. My late uncle's wife even came all the way from Alaska.
My father has been gone now for 21 years and my mother is in a adult care home in Phoenix. My older sister, Sylvia, lives in Phoenix and she goes to see her several times a week and takes her to her doctor's appts., etc. My mother's thought process is not much good anymore and it's really hard to see her like that. It makes one feel helpless. I know that the Lord will take her home when it's His time. In the meantime all we can do is continue to let her know we love her.
I hope that all of you that read this bio have done well in all the years since 1966. It seems like it was centuries ago since I was in high school. I have many fond memories of some wonderful friends like Jeannie Hermansen (sp?), Pam Ferrara and Kerry Kelley and Karen Edwards. We are all (except for Jeannie), still in touch with one another and remain best of friends.
