Glenda's Story
Life
In 2001, retired from 38 years of teaching in the Chula Vista City School District, and though I loved teaching, retirement is even better! A year after retiring, I also sold my state licensed day care center, a business which I built and operated sucessfully for more than 25 years in Bonita, California. Being "out of work" for the first time in my life since I was 8 years old finally freed me up to travel and pursue my artistic interests.
I have 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. We are all very close and spend lots of time together. I also greatly enjoy movies, tv, playing all kinds of games, listening to music, photography, travel, being in my garden, making jewlery, sculptures, and collages, reading, being out in nature, being with my friends, learning new things on my computer, and living in San Diego. I am a professional watercolor artist, and you can see samples of my work on Facebook.
Since retiring I have been to Asia four times to tour and visit my son and his family. He works in Hong Kong for Barclay's as a computer software engineer, but he has also lived and worked in Tokyo. (He speaks Japanese!) While in Asia, I visited Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kyoto, Takayama, Hakone, Hiroshima, and Miyajima. I have a...Expand for more
lso been to Europe twice, traveling in Germany, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. I've been on safaris in Kenya and spent a few weeks touring there. Plus I've done several extensive trips through the US and Canada... traveling for several weeks on backroads and stopping where and when I desired for as long as I wanted. I've been to every state in the union, except Alaska. I've been to many of them multiple times. We live in an amazing country! I hope to set foot on six out of seven continents before I die.
When I was younger, I spent a lot of time camping in the US and Mexico. My favorite way to camp was just to throw a sleeping bag on the ground, but I enjoyed campers and tents also. I've never tried backpacking, but I'm not dead yet! Obviously, I love to travel!
To help me keep up physically with my schedule, I take power yoga twice a week with a private trainer and also exercise daily. To keep my mind strong, I have taken French, done lots of reading, kept up with all the latest computer skills, done a lot of writing, and enjoyed various art and jewelry classes. I love watercolor painting and have even sold a few pieces. I'd love to hear from any classmates who might remember me! Who knew how fast 55 years would go?
