Jean's Story

I went to work full time after graduation in 1975 and got married a year later. That marriage ended in divorce in 1979. It took me a long time to find someone else I could love and trust, and in 1992 I married my husband Bill. I'm happy to say we have now been married for over 15 years and have a great son born in 1998. We started a family late in life (he was born less than a month before my 41st birthday), but we have been truly blessed with the greatest kid in the world. I have been working for the state since 1982 and am ready to retire from a very stressful job. However, I will have to work at some job to pay for all the sports that my son is playing. hen I went to the ice rink to see my son play instead of my brothers. After years of playing soccer, floor hockey, and baseball, his favorite sport is now ice hockey & he aspires to play for MSU and the Red Wings some day. In 1997 (the year before our son was born), we decided we wanted to exit the "rat race" of the Detroit area, and I was able to transfer from Detroit to Lansing with my state job. My wonderful husband was supportive of that move & we felt as though it was a good choice for us. We like the fact that we can travel from south Lansing (where we live) to any other side of Lansing in about 20 minutes or less, and it's only a 6-1/2 mile drive to work for me instead of the 25 miles I was driving from Flat Rock to downtown Detroit. However, we are in Taylor & Allen Park (where my brothers live) several times a year for family functions.
