Lloyd's Story

Life Time has flown by so quickly since our days at Warren Easton. Memories remain as fresh as if these transpired just a short time ago. Feelings and emotions from back then can be piqued in the quickness of a flashback thought. Those times must have been important to me! Old images are so vividly recalled. I don't know about you, but for me, I'll say that I would love to have done some things differently and better back then. If only we could....Take 2? I am sorry I have failed to remain in touch with so many of you who were so important back then and now. I feel a loss from being "away", so maybe I can make up for some of the lost time and togetherness by getting in touch now. I promise I'm a bit more insightful and helpful these days. To address a little personal history, after HS I attended LSU in Baton Rouge, graduating in 1974 with a BS in Zoology. While at LSU I figured out that the only animals I knew intimately were people so this led to me attending and graduating from LSU's School of Medicine with a MD degree, May 13, 1978. My subsequent Medical training (the next 13 1/2 yrs), included an Internship at Charity Hospital in NO, a Residency in Internal Medicine at the U of South Florida in Tampa,FL., and a Residency in Dermatology again at LSU in New Orleans. From 18 to 32 years old, I became a Doctor. I married for the first time in 1977 and as life would twist and squirm I would eventually remarry in 1988 and 2007. I have 4 daughters from my first marriage and 2 sons from my second marriage. My wife Julie and I just passed our 2nd anniversary, April 28,2009. Outside of medicine, I participated in the horse racing industry as an owner and breeder for 15 years, 1986-2001. Crimson W Stable was my racing operation. My colors/silks could be described, "Salmen jacket,Crimson W, Crimson Bars on Green Sleeves,Crimson Collar and Cap. What a priveledge to have designed these and called them my own! The most successful horse I bred was a filly named (over a cup of coffee), Rare Blend. She would earn nearly 3/4 of a million dollars as a race mare, and her legacy goes on through a stakes winning daughter Rare Gift and others. I should mention my first race horse who I named Fibrillator. His last to first (13 times) racing style could stop any heart! I remained athletically active for years after high school and between studies. I "ran" for the health benefit and dashed for any pick up game in Flag Football for the mere lingering love of the sport of Football. Finally, in 1982 I was blessed to run on a National Championship 4x100 meter track relay team. We, Jack Dunn,EJ,1961, Joe Sincere,BTW,1970, Danny Thiel,HC,1968, and myself,WE,1970, won our National Championship during the National Sub- Masters' Track and Field Championships held at Wichita State,(Kansas),in August of that year. Since then, many daydreams involve my having the speed I would develop as an adult back in highschool. I can't even imagine my joy had I been a team mate of Ben and Frank, Augie and others. Simply, that was not in the Good Lord's plan for my life. I am sure what has happened is best. Over the years I have had contact with some Eagle classmates. Ben Saclo, Frank Gendusa, Walter Gaudin, Bobby Veith(med school classmate),the Athas family,Alex,Steve,Debbie,Miss Nancy and the late "Coach Athas", and Jeanie Bacuzzi,Pete Bacuzzi and Coach Al Ott, all teachers at SJ Peters. I have seen only briefly, Mike Whitney, Re Bondio and Augie prior to his death. Most interestingly I met up with Coach Ott at the 1998,40th Anniversary Celebration of the 1958 LSU Tiger Football Team. I attended this event with my eldest son Lloyd as special guests of Coach Charles McClendon. I had remembered that Coach Ott was a member of this team and I sought him out. I know Coach Ott was very surprised, startled (nearly disbelieving) when he saw me, special guest and Dr to a Hall of Fame College Football Coach...flashback to SJ Peters...Who could have predicted? Again, only that Good Lord! Looking back, my heart remains in New Orleans and in Louisiana. Through the internet I read nola.com and the Baton Rouge Advocate. I read about my alma mata LSU nearly daily and I have stayed abreast of the recovery efforts post Katrina. I have been back with an organized mission trip (Lutheran church in Boca Raton) and individually to help in any small way I could. I understand the hardships and challenges many of you continue to face. Duri...Expand for more
ng my last trip to NO for Mardi Gras 2009, I was very saddened to see the City in such disrepair and then I realized, New Orleans may never again be the city of our Youth. This update has been written July 3,2009, so please place my remarks in perspective. I pray I can see so many of you again for our 40th Class Reunion in 2010 and I'd ask that you all consider my idea of taking a cruise to celebrate this anniversary. We should include an invitation to all classmates during our time of attendance at Warren Easton, thereby the classes of 1968 to 1972, all teachers during that time period, and any other Warren Easton or Warren Easton Feeder School Alumnus who would like to join us in a true Celebration of Life, Warren Easton and the Spirit of the Golden Eagles!!!! Lloyd Wickboldt Update, May 20, 2007 Julie (Juliem) and I were married April 28. It was a happy and dancing filled occasion. Ben (Saclo) came from Seattle and spent 3 whole days with us. What a treat! Frank (Gendusa) couldn't make it, but I received a touching phone call from him 5 minutes after I could not change my mind about remarrying. His timing was always great! The night before the wedding we cruised the intracoastal waterways of South Floirda on a yacht and partied until we rocked the boat. I nicknamed the event "The Swim" in tribute to Ben's innovative dance. He had the entire crew doing it by the time we docked. For a honeymoon Julie and I travelled to Spain, cruised to France, Italy, Greece (had to write Coach Athas from Greece), Turkey and Sicily. Our favorite stops were Madrid and Ephesus. Life is a dynamic, so I'll change photos as we move along. Lloyd Update, June 27, 2009 The time has come to let everyone know what has happened recently in my life and I do have much to share. Two thrilling events have recently past and those were getting together with '70 Classmate Ron Chamberlin in Orlando, and then Julie and my vacation to Seattle, WA, Ketchikan and Juneau, Alaska, as well as Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The new now picture of Julie and I was taken at a formal dinner on the Celebrity Ship, Infinity during our Alaska Cruise. I'll have many pictures from Alaska, Canada, Seattle (with Ben Saclo) and of Ron Chamberlin. I'll begin with Ron and proceed on to the vacation trip and Ben Saclo. Pastor Ron Chamberlin is an inspiration. For those classmates who do not know, Ron is a Christian minister and head of a large Church in Woodlands, Texas. He is also a missionary with active missions in far away places. Some of those places do not allow religious freedom so I will not mention specific locations. The fact is that Ron has given his life to preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and is a powerful force to be around. The strength of a true believer is incredible. Although I have not attained the level of communication with a living God as Ron, he is critical to learn from and further study and pray to be able to experience his realities. In the process, Ron can bring hope and inspiration and reminders of God's love into your life if you simply ask. Just contact Ron through classmates. The most recent vacation Julie and I have taken was to Alaska, departing from and returning to Seattle, where I had the chance to get together with Ben Saclo and his wonderful wife Bentina. We spent 2 days together and the happy moments are countless. I'll try to relay as many as I can through pictures and descriptions of those pictures, so I hope classmates continues to allow us to expand our photographic tour through life. Ben continues to be an electrical inspector for the city of Seattle and now has 5 years to retirement. Ben and Bentina have a beach home in Oregon, 4 hours driving from Bothel, WA where they live. Ben plans to spend many of the retirement days in Oregon at the beach. One of the special times spent with Ben was pursueing a little adventure. We had decided to find the floating home in Seattle of the movie Sleepless in Seattle, one of the best romantic comedies starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Mission Accomplished! From 1 small tour guide hint, and the combined memories of the film in our little group we ended up 20 ft from the dock on which this home sits. A kind neighbor then directed us to the best photoshooting sites (without disturbing the occupants of the home). Please check out the recent photos of all my encounters. As always, I'd love to hear from you, Lloyd
