Michael's Story

Life I guess if you recognize my name, you had a pretty good idea of who I was. Well, I basically look the same, only add about 20 pounds of muscle, a permanent grin and a few more laugh lines. Got it? Ok. I left home almost as soon as I graduated, and suddenly became responsible for a lot of stuff. My clothes, my food, rent and a bunch of other crap that I thought was easy. After struggling along and screwing up a couple of times, I wound back up at my parent's house. My options were severely limited, as far as I knew. I was working for a restaraunt washing dishes, when I saw this guy in a uniform come in. I hemmed and hawed and finally decided to join up. I've led an extremely interesting life up to this point. I've had Knee replacement surgery, had a hole shot in my foot, and had a Humvee explode in front of me. Among other things. I've invaded countries alongside Marine forces, and had to know when to duck and call for the flyboys to come finish the bad guys off. I've lost good friends, and made new ones. I've been in bar fights, and settled more than a few. I've lived my life the way I wanted to, and am looking forward to many more years in the service. I happen to agree with our president on Iraq. We had to get that homicidal maniac out of that country for good. I just think th...Expand for more
at the shooting stopped a little too soon. A lot of my buddies are still over there and I am very worried about them, so if you read this, send one up to the Big Man, and ask for their safe return please. Military Let's see, I joined up and went to boot camp in January of 96, graduated in March, went to "A" school, to learn a trade. In school I learned how to Solder, Braze, and weld pipes. I also learned a lot on Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Boiler systems. I have progressed in these trades to the point of Master Plumber. I went from Witchita falls, Texas, where my school was, to Adak, Alaska. It was a little chilly up there, so I went and worked for the Heat Shop. It was cool until we closed the island down. It was a good duty station. Good times up there. From there I went to Yokosuka, Japan. Lotsa people. It was pretty cool. The sights alone were worth going. Very polite people too. Then I went to California, got ststioned at the 31st Seabee Readiness Group. It was pretty good. California is all right except for the Peaceniks, and the high cost of living. You get used to the peaceniks though. We get protested every other week. It's ok since everyone going on, or leaving the base flips 'em off. You should hear some of the words leaving those "Peaceful" protesters mouths.
