James's Story

Life My Kids Daughter, given up for adoption at birth. Did not meet her until she was 28. Happy (ongoing) ending! My Job Semi-retired from a 40 year career in the information technology field. I am now a PC software consultant, and contract corporate PC trainer (MS Office, etc.). I also am a SAG/AFTRA commercial actor and voice-over artist, and have been a professional tennis official for over 30 years. School I was very active in drama in high school (Ann Arbor High), and also was known for my Shelley Berman routines. I played tennis briefly in high school and in college (Merritt College, Oakland, CA). Still play competitively (national ranking in 70 and over category). I worked in radio after high school (WPAG and WOIA in Ann Arbor), and did some stage acting in Ann Arbor Little Theatre. Moved to San Francisco to persue the radio career, but was too young to break into the big market. Got side-tracked with a 40 year career in the computer applications software field (although did have a once a week DJ stint for a while in Berkeley). Transferred to Southern California and concentrated on the computer career till about 1990. Took a break from the computer world at that point, to find out what would have happened had I continued the acting career. Became a commercial actor, and voice-over actor for the next 5 years (SAG and AFTRA, agent, etc.), paying the bills as a sports official (softball and tennis). Did some co...Expand for more
mmercials, and a lot of corporate video work, which I still do, but never got the "break" as an actor, to make it big. Got realistic after trying for 5 years, and went back to the computer business, teaching PC software (Microsoft Office applications) for corporate clients. Turns out, my acting and stand-up comedy background were ideal for teaching. Keeps the students awake! Still have my SAG/AFTRA card, but only work occasionally, mostly corporate stuff. My agent keeps sending me out, though . . . The tennis officiating blossomed, and I have been doing that along with my full-time jobs since 1981. I worked the US Open in Flushing N.Y. during August/September this year - 2013 (my 25th US Open), and work most of the Southern California amateur, junior, collegiate, and professional events, as well. Yes, I have had run-ins with John McEnroe . . . I have been married (and divorced) three times, and am currently in a long-term (5+yrs) relationship with a lady named Susan. I have no children from my marriages. I did however, make contact with my birthdaughter, in 1991. Given up for adoption at birth in Michigan, it is a long, but good ongoing story. I have appeared on many (10+) TV game shows as a contestant over the years, and have done quite well. Three-day champion on Wheel of Fortune; Match Game; Card Sharks; To Tell the Truth; etc. Most recent was as a contestant on Deal or No Deal in 2010. And the beat goes on . . .
