Cara's Story

Life I moved to WY in 1995 and have never looked back. The only things I miss are my beloved NY Yankees (I even have a Yankees tattoo) and all the different cuisines that NJ/NY had to offer. However, Denver's only about an hour away so I've been able to see the Yankees play the Rockies at Coors Field and visit Denver's array of restaurants. In 1998 I married Wyoming native Don Moore and we've been married ever since. Three months after our nuptials we bought a home & share it with our three dogs: a Sheltie, a Chessie, and a Norwegian Elkhound. We also give shelter to a sweet, stray cat that we call Miss Kitty. My hobbies include traveling, Egyptology, cooking, target shooting (I own a Smith & Wesson), walking with my dogs, and reading mysteries. I also love classic comedies (Doris Day, Marx Bros, Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, Martin and Lewis, Lucy and Desi, Cary Grant), British comedies, the British mystery show "Midsomer Murders," and American TV shows: CSI, NCIS, Supernatural, House, Medium, Monk, Psych, Survivor, and Ghost Whisperer. School Some of my fondest memories are from my time spent at Tenakill. Those were care-free days! Village was okay, & although I wasn't in the "popular" crowd at NVRHS we had our own group w/lots of friends & were happy. Quite frankly, I'm glad I wasn't in that "click" because they were miserable human beings who had no tolerance for anyone who were different from them. Ugh! WE had a lot more fun & didn't have the burden of trying to appear perfect. I sincerely hope that those folks found happiness later on in life, and I'm pleased to say that I found many other classmates on another social network and they are just great people! At any rate, for those of you who haven't seen me since then, I am not the same quiet & shy person: I'm opinionated, strong-willed, and refuse to be subjected to BS. Probably a good thing I WASN'T like that back then or ...Expand for more
many of you would have visited the principal's office w/me A LOT! At any rate, I welcome emails from both old friends and foes (if you dare). :O) College I LOVED college! Everything that high school wasn't, college was. I breezed through all of my classes, hung out with fraternity brothers, easily made friends in every class and dated a nice guy for 2 years. College opened up all kinds of doors for me: I left it not only with a bachelor's degree in my chosen field, but also with confidence, wonderful memories, and new life-long friends. I majored in Communications, and minored in English. Workplace Two weeks after graduating college I landed a job in my chosen profession: publishing. I worked first as an editorial assistant and then as a production editor for Ablex Publishing in Norwood, NJ. In 1994 I left to work for their competitor: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc. in Northvale, NJ. I was very happy working there, but in May 1995 I moved across the country to Cheyenne, WY. However, I kept my hand in things by being a freelance proofreader and editor for Ablex, Lawrence Erlbaum, and Prentice-Hall until 2002. In 1996 I was hired as a dispatcher with the Wyoming Highway Patrol and have been there ever since. In 2002 I tested for and was promoted to a Dispatch Supervisor. I currently supervise 10 great dispatchers, and 2008 marked my 12th anniversary with the organization. I have been involved in numerous professional activities/groups, including: past-President of the Communications Division of the Wyoming Peace Officers Association (WPOA), past training board member of WPOA, past board member of Wyoming's Communications Training Advisory Board (CTAB), and current Training Coordinator for the Wyoming chapter of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO). I'm also cochair of a dispatcher committee within the WHP's Dispatch Center, and am on our hiring committee.
