Joseph's Story

Life I currently live in Trussville, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. I am married to the former Josephine Ranelli (a lovely Italian) and have two children (Kenneth and Jennifer). Jennifer is married and has two boys (Chad and Josh) and a 1 month old daughter, Callie Jordan Cooper born on May 4, 2008. I have never been so happy now that I have become a member of the grandpa club. I am battling cancer (gall bladder) as diagnosed on 4/23/08. I am in the middle of round 2 and 3 and don't know what the future holds. God is hearing our prayers and the reports have been very good. He has provided me with the courage and faith to sustain whatever lies ahead. My wish is to attend the reunion in September. The chemo hasn't taken what little hair I have (ha ha), but does make me have periods of extreme fatigue. College My first college class was at Nellis AFB attending UNLV. of my basic courses from UNLV and focused on a business major at Golden Gate University (on base at Nellis). I was allowed to attend UAB for one semestar in 1977 as an incentive from the Air Force. I returned from the service to live in Birmingham where I finished my college degree at UAB. Military I enlisted in the Air Force in late 1974 and served basic training at Lackland AFB. I received advanced training (electronics) at Lowry AFB in Denver, CO. My first duty assignment was at Nellis in Las Vegas. I was assigned to the 3rd MMS group at Clark AB Philippines in 1978. I returned to Nellis in 1979 and was discharged in 1980. I was an E-5 (SSGT) when I got out of the Air Force. My fondest memories were camping and fishing in the Sierra/Nevada mountain range as well as along the Utah border. I quicky grew tired of the Vegas lights, but loved the surrounding area including Lake Mead.
