Abby's Story
From my first years in the field of Education as an assistant librarian (Akron, Ohio) to a position as an elementary school librarian (Waco, Texas), then on to Ada, Oklahoma as a Special Education teacher, I have had a lifetime filled with children. The memories from all of those years are precious to me.
On May 23, 2012, I retired from my position as a Special Education teacher. What an amazing 22 1/2 years I have experienced in Ada with my junior high school students. With ability levels of the students ranging from moderate to severe/profound, every day proved to hold some new challenge; laughter; tears; amazement; entertainment; & the occasional breakthrough moment. We were never bored!!

in Education, I certainly miss my students & fellow staff members. Yet, I relish the time to be with my husband & with close friends; to correspond; to read; to travel more often; and to further hone my photography skills.
Since I first wrote the above, three years have passed - quickly! While I keep busy with my original retirement plans, I also volunteer in a local elementary school (especially during mandated testing periods); process financial aid paperwork in our university bookstore for students (at the beginning of each semester); serve as photographer and publicity chairperson for our local retired educators' association; and garden! Never did I expect to so enjoy yard work! Retirement is a great state of life!
