Miguel's Story
Life
Well, after high school, I tried a year at UIUC for a little higher education, but that really wasn't working out. So, instead I opted to enlist in the US Marine Corps. Thanks to the Marines, I spent a little less than a year in California, mostly for training purposes (i.e. boot camp, Marine Combat Training, and Military Occupational Specialty school). Maintenance Battalion, leaving the operators to scratch heads when their radios don't work. After about 6 or so months there, I was promoted to sergeant and shortly thereafter received orders to my present duty station in the middle of nowhere, 29 Palms. I thought I was to be an instructor but the brass had other plans for me and I've been shuffling papers ever since. And we all lived ever after, but not happily. Fast forward a few years. I've gotten out of the military, I'm broke and in college. Good times. I was shooting for some flying licenses but it turns out landing is trickier than it looks. Since I didn't want to end up as a stain on the runway, I looked for a major elsewhere. So, one more semester and I'll have my degree in Info systems. I'm currently living in a rinky-dink, podunk town called Rantoul, but Chicago looms on the skyline.
