Karen 's Story

Life THAT'S me, Karen K. Smith, I went to kindergarten at M.E.Foster '58- '59 in Houston, Tx. I then went to St. Peters the Apostle thru the 5th grade. After moving from Foster Place to Dumbarton Oakes, I went to Montgomery Elementary for the 6th grade and was in the group that went thru 7th-12th grade at James Madison High School. It doesn't seem like 39 years since graduation, Class of '71. I've kept in touch with Diane Litzman Williamson. She still lives in the old neighborhood. Also I've kept in touch with Pam Mueller Dunlap. She lives in Baytown, just a few miles away from us. After H.S. I worked at Woolco Dept Store, First Alief Bank, then Foley's in Baytown. I got married in '74, and still married to the same great guy, Steve Smith not a Madison graduate. Steve went to San Jacinto H.S. in Houston, '62-'65 and grew up near Almeda Elementary School on Norway. Steve spent time in Viet'Nam '67-'68. He worked as a Merchant Seaman, Texas Thermatic in air conditioning, Gulf Oil, attended Lee College in Baytown, TX. and now at his present position as Instrument & Electrical Specialist at Bayer Material Science Corp. We've lived in Baytown Tx. since 1976. Steve will probably never retire. He loves his job! We've lived in Houston, Pasadena, and now Baytown,Tx. for the last 30 plus years. It's been a great place to raise a family. We have 2 sons and a daughter, ages 26, 24, and 20.The kids have grown up on Little League Baseball, football, basketball, gymnastics, twirling, and dance. The high school football scene has been great watching our All-District football player, Drew, and participating in the H.S. swing-choir program. I'm a colon cancer survivor since 1999. God is merciful and I am truly blessed! We went to the Madison Big Bash in '02 but did not visit too much. That morning we had a Christian burial for my Dad in Bremond,Tx. I went to the SR2 and had a great time, seeing many good friends including Ron and Carolyn Franklin, Cherry Kutac,Janis Grimwood Criswell,Jo Moore, Patti Dudley,Sherry Hemenas,Anna Resjek,Bonnie Bobo, Linda Cook,Karen Holbrook, Judy Johnson and of course Pam Mueller among many others. The time went by so fast, really not enough to have a good visit with all. Since the big reunion I have been in contact with lots of friends from MADISON, MOSTLY FROM FACEBOOK! March '09, a group of us ladies got together at the Cafe Express in Houston and had lots of laughs! Meet up with a few others at the Mucky Duck in Houston to he...Expand for more
ar Keith Grimwood of Trout Fishing in America. Looking forward to the next reunion! Our daughter Stephanie went to New York in March '06, and I went as a chaperon with the Baytown Sterling High School Choir. We had a fantastic time! (except while we were there, my younger bro. Louis passed away of a massive heart attack). He lived in Jacksonville, TX. and was 45 yrs.old. All the kids are working now , Stephanie our youngest graduated from High School, '08. We will be coming to those special years soon with the kids leaving the nest, and hopefully they will find their mates and give us a lot of grand kids to keep us happily busy! As you can guess my priorities are my faith in Christ and my family. I started Lee College, Baytown,TX. in the fall of '05, with our middle son Russell, enrolled in Word '03 and Medical Terminology. I dropped Med. Term. due to an auto accident in Nov.05. I do believe this is not my calling! I kept up with the computer class and passed! I've been taking a break. Stephanie is now enrolled in Professional Office Technology this fall ('08)and I am taking two classes with her!(Update: We passed!) I'm not sure about going back. Our oldest son Drew is working at Bayer (Lanxess). He is finally bought a new home June 09.got married June 27,2009. We are expecting a grandson September 2010. Russell is working part-time for the school district and continuing his studies in Technology, enrolled in Physics I, and is looking for another career path. We had a much needed family holiday reunion, hosted by Steve's sis Sharon (San Jacinto H.S. grad. '59-'63) at Padre Island, Nov'06. We had family from Florida, Minnesota, Washington, and of course Texas. We had a great time at the beach. Its time for another vacation away from all the cares of life. We have been busy remodeling our home in Baytown, Texas after being in one place since 1980. Steve's done a wonderful job on our home. We are here for keeps. Its been great hearing from some of you guys! There are some of you who have read our Bios and are to shy to reply! Please send a email with the year you graduated and get those digital cameras out and upload some pics ! Looking for emails from classmates and "old friends'65-'71. I hope to hear from lots classmates after the Madison Reunion, Aug 2, 2008. While here check out my pics from the SR2. Add comments or just some names of some peps that are nameless!Life is great!
