Sarah's Story
College
I began college at Liberty Univ. in 1999. I originally majored in Communications with an Advertising/PR concentration. I had a 4-year tuition-free scholarship, but I realized that Coms was not leading me where I wanted to go. After much prayer, I decided to transfer to Va. Tech in Fall 2001, where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art in May 2004. I am now enrolled at Hollins Univ., where I am earning my Masters of Art in Teaching, with an Art Education endorsement. I'll be certified to teach preK-12 Art in 2005. I feel like I'm going to be old and gray by the time I'm out of school! I can't believe it..I've been in school since 1985!
One highlight of my Hokie years: My Senior year (2003), I was one of five art majors nominated by the VT Art Dept. faculty to illustrate a children's book about VT's mascot(HELLO HOKIE BIRD!), which was written by a VT a...Expand for more
lum. I was selected for the position, and that was my first published book! It's on sale at Tech's bookstore, as well as other places, such as Barnes & Noble.
I've really seen God at work in my college career(s). It's been one miracle after another. I'll be the first to admit, leaving a Christian campus (LU) for a secular one, was a BIG switch. I don't know what I would've done without the Lord in my life during those times of roommates with different standards and professors with vastly different viewpoints. God is good. I learned many things...and I asked myself about a million times, "Why has such-and-such been allowed to happen?" Some things I yet to understand. I do know this: For a Christian, a secular college is like spiritual bootcamp. NEVER compromise your standards, and don't be afraid to take a stand for what you believe. You can never go wrong that way.
