Mary's Story
Life
I started working in September 1965 right after graduation with a real estate firm in Peoria. This company had a summer secretary from the 1965 graduating class and thought so much of her training, that the called AOL and asked for the name of a recent graduate with secretarial experience. I went on an interview and was hired. I was only 17, but turned 18 in October of 1965. building and needed some part-time help. He and my boss were friends, so I worked part-time for him doing secretarial and bookkeeping. In 1985, when the President of my company died, and the company was closed, I switched to the other company full time. In essence, I have only had one job in my life, and have never written a resume. Even though I was trained as a secretary and still use shorthand, I did get into bookkeeping in the 70's, and now handle over 10 sets of books.
