Kristen's Story
Life
I have changed in the fact that what was once a priority is not important any more. I have a wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children. I have a comfortable job and my husband likes his. I have good kids who people say are sweet and smart. They give meaning to my life that I never had before. I have a roof over my head, food to eat if I get hungry, and family and friends to talk to if I need it. I have a faith in God that keeps me going even on those rare days that I feel like it's too much. Being the smartest or the best at everything doesn't matter to me anymore. I have no desire to outwit, outhink, outplay, or outdo anyone in anything (except maybe Eric. He ALWAYS wins!). I know who I am and where I want to be and that's good enough for me. I don't have to prove myself to hypocrites and snobs anymore. I don't have to "rise above" any preconcieved notion of my family. I am me, a mom and a wife, and I am happy.
School
If I co...Expand for more
uld do school all over again, I would not care what people thought. I spent too much time trying to figure out the truth behind what was coming out of peoples' mouths, that I didn't worry about what was going on inside me. I would do my own thing, be my own self, and not try to please everyone around me.
Workplace
I started working at the front desk of a Casino hotel. I was promoted very quickly, and ended up starting and running a whole new department. I then stayed home with my son for a while, before venturing back out into the work force. I was an office assistant at a Clinical Research Organization, then once again quit to stay home with my new baby. Last year I became the assistant to the Director of the UMKC Drug Information Center. It's a good job, with good people, though I HATE working for such a liberal university. I am planning on staying home with my babies again real soon, and devoting alot of time to bible study and teens.
