Kirk's Story
Life
Right after high school I started working as an airbrush artist, creating fabric for interior design. I also sold paintings and sculptures to interior designers for high-end homes. At 19 I became Art Director for a silkscreening company. I used that job to get a design, and eventually Assistant Art Director position at Ocean Pacific in 1990. OP was to set me on a career in the garment industry. In 1992 I moved to NorCal and eventually found my way to Joe Boxer as Art Director. That was the best job imaginable. I traveled the world shopping, rubbing elbows with movie stars, rock stars and top fashion designers. When I felt like I'd done all there was to do, I left Joe Boxer to start my own clothing company. It was called Eleven Eleven Operations. It was an upscale skateboard line. It was doing really well and getting a loyal following, getting product placed in many movies and TV programs, and being worn by a ton of top rock groups and stars. Business partner troubles killed it. Bummer!
While in NorCal I also ran another business on the side. It was a hot rod car show and clothing line called Billetproof (billetproof.com). The first hot rod show I put on was in 1997. It beca...Expand for more
me the largest show of it's kind in the world, with an extremely loyal and fanatical following. I have since sold the company.
Tired of the garment industry and its political BS, I used my hot rod experience to get the job I am in today. I work for a company called Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. This is another fantastic job. I am Creative Director for the entire company and Publisher/Editor of the Goodguys Gazette, a monthly magazine about, what else, hot rods. I get to travel the country attending car shows, taking pictures and writing about it. This is great because hot rods and custom cars have always been my obsession. You might remember my black '64 Ford Galaxie, my yellow convertible mini truck (stop laughing), or any of the other unique rides I've had.
Anyway, my wife and I have been together for about 16 years (married for 7). We have a little girl, born in July, 2004. Her name is Regan, after the girl from The Exorcist. I spend my spare time (what little there is) building cars and motorcycles. We live in Concord, CA in a mid-sixties rancher filled with '60s Danish-modern furniture and collectibles.
I have a stupid blog at whatkirksaw.blogspot.com
