Curtis's Story

Life After I left school I joined the U.S.Army and was sent to Germany after Basic & AIT. Iwas there for 19 mths and was reassigned to Ft. Benning Ga. I was part of a Basic Training Unit. In other words I trained new soldiers just coming into the Army. After 3 years I was reassigned to the 10th Mountain Division which was also at Benning. While there I learned to repel & jump out of airplanes. This is where I meet and married my 1st wife. After a year I was once againreassigned & divorced. This time I went to Ft. Hood, Texas. I was assigned to 3/41 Infantry Brigade & hated it. This is also where I meet and married my 2nd and current wife. I hated this place so much that I got out of the Army in March 1988 and my daughter was born in April. I re-enlisted in November 1988 and was ...Expand for more
assigned to Ft. Bragg, N.C. In June 1989 my son was born.I was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Division. Yep once again I was jumping out of airplanes. In 1992 I went to Saudi Arabia to serve in the 1st Gulf War. I was there until May 1993. After 6years with the 82nd Airborne I was assigned to the 7th Special Forces(Airborne)and was there for 2 years. I have 139 jumps and the last one literally broke my back. After I broke my back I was reassigned to Germany once again. This time I was with an Armor unit. I had to have my back surgically repaired in 1997. I now have metal rods on both sides of my spine from the base of my neck down to my waist. I made E-7 in 1998 and was Medically Retired in 1999. I returned to Fayetteville, N.C. and have been here since.
