Life Born in Lima, Ohio 1948. Moved to Michigan 1955. Attended Cooper, James Monroe, Roseville (0r was it Rosedale?), Newberg, Saint Damiens, storage room at Bentley HS, Mckinley--did I leave any out? They didn't have enough schools and couldn't figure out where to put us! Emerson Jr. High 1960-1963, Franklin HS 1963-1966. Girl Scouts 1960-1966. Sang in choirs with Mr. Ballard at Emerson and Mr. Hill at FHS. Was in Mr Bingham's Plane Geometry class sitting next to Lance Dickerson and Nick Martinelli when the PA System came on with the news Kennedy had been shot. Fell in love with the Beach Boys and came to California in 1966. Attended California Western University aka United States International Univ. '66-70. Bachelors Degree and Elem. Teaching Cred. Went to USIU England Campus the fall of 1969 followed by travels thru Europe to Greece. Worked for San Diego City Schools '70-'79. Daughter Angelique born 1972. #2 Zoe born 1979. #3 Qiana born 1990. Opened Mothers Helper Childrens Shop 1981-present. I go back every 10 years for Class of '66 reunions and love seeing everyone! Love California but miss having childhood friends to reminisce with. Would love to have the chance to tell so many of my former teachers how much I have used the things they taught me and how fondly I remember them! Workplace I never held a job beyond babysitting prior to college. In college I was a Resident Assistant in the dorm and also babysat in the neighborhood around the college while my then-fiance was in Viet Nam. When I graduated from Cal Western I continued college to earn my Elementary Teaching Credential, including summer school...Expand for more
(so I could stay in California year round!). As a result I ended up doing my five years of college in 4 years, as did my roommate Mary Ann. When I got out in the summer of 1970 there was suddenly a glut of teachers in the job market due to all the baby boomers graduating with teaching credentials. We were all encouraged to become teachers due to the shortage in the 50's when we were all flooding the elementary schools. I had an office job for a whopping 3 weeks, then sold Tupperware, which was a lifesaver that tided me over till some substitute teaching jobs starting coming in. Turned out I loved the challenge of subbing and did it for 2 years till I had my first daughter, Angelique. Also sold Avon for a few years from 1976 when my friend turned over her route to me when she moved till about 1982 when I just got too busy starting up my own business to continue it. I have always loved sales. Stayed out a year to care for her then returned to subbing for 6 more years till I had my second daugheter, Zoe. When she was two, a friend and I decided to start up a children's resale shop in the Ocean Beach area, which I am still doing 23 years later!! My 3rd daughter, Qiana, now 14, was practically raised in Mother's Helper Children's Shop! Along the way I also had a part-time job doing bookkeeping for a pregnancy counseling center and worked in a ladie's resale shop to support my little family! At one time I was working 3 jobs, 6-7 days a week, plus raising my two girls. I have always kept busy, including volunteer work as secretary and treasurer of groups I have belonged to, and Cookie Mother for my daughter's Brownie Troop!
