Valerie's Story
Life
Valerie Swanson, Coach of the Ridgewater Volleyball team is a native of Sherburn, Minnesota. She is a1972 Sherburn HS graduate, 1976 Southwest Minnesota State College graduate with Bachelor of Art majors in health and physical education, and a Masters of Science in physical education in 1983 from St.Cloud State University.

Valerie was awarded the Southwest Minnesota State University Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003. She has been named Minnesota Community College coach of the year (2003), Region Coach of the Year (1982, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002), and NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year in 2002. She was inducted into the West Central Tribune Hall of Fame in October 2004. She reached her 700th college volleyball victory on October 21, 2004
