Beth's Story

The oldest of six children, I grew up in the country side of Wilsonville. I attended Wilsonville Grade School, as did my grandfather, Mother and uncles. I was a country girl, tramping through the woods with my brothers, sisters and cousins, making fantastic forts & tree houses, wading in streams, catching crawdads, fish, eels and pollywogs. Attending West Linn High School was an adventure in new friendships and experiences. There are many memories I still smile over and friendships I have treasured. Funny High School Memory: One time at lunch, a bunch of us tied our shoelaces together. What fun--except the knots were so tight, when the bell rang, we had a hard time untying them and we were all late to class. (grin) The Present: I live near the heart of Independence, Oregon, in a very old house built just before the turn of the century. Our little town, with it's reclaimed historic downtown area, is delightful. I live near the river, where I love to walk along the water's edge. I have three wonderful adult children who live in the Salem area. Almost four years ago I lost my husband to an aortic embolism. I continue to run the non-p...Expand for more
rofit organization my husband and I created over 26 years ago. Hobbies: Art (any medium), writing, editing, photography and photoshop, gardening, rock hounding, drama, performing, reading, history, walking, gourmet cooking, playing the Ukulele, the mandolin, the jimbay and my old guitar. Favorite Teachers: When I entered Mrs. Elliott's 2nd grade class, I could not read. With her help, by springtime I was devouring the Reader's Digest. Then there was Mr. Oldenstadt who taught us how to write clearly--I still use his technique to draw straight and curved lines in my artwork. I learned most of what I know in Math, and other subjects from Mr. Andersh (sp) in 8th grade. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. Miss Bocci was my high school art teacher. I am self-taught, with the exception of Miss Bocci's art instruction in high school. I am deeply grateful for her lasting influence in my life. Good and true friends are hard to find--they are like fine gold. I'm hoping to reestablish some of the wonderful friendships I had in High School. You know who you are--I would love to hear of your life's adventures and to see you once again.
