Thomas's Story
Life
OK. Here it is. I am still practicing law, some 38 years now in Washington DC, where I went directly after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law, after a year in Waltham, Massachusetts, where I received a Masters Degree in Chemistry and got the hell out of that mistake. ( Chemistry, not Brandeis) .
I have two children. My son Brendan graduated from Catholc Unversity School of Law in 2005, after graduating from Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences in 2001. He is engaged to be married in April 2008 to that stunning blond in the pictures, who was president of the Student Body (no jokes) at CU LAW in 2005. Both have to die for jobs at major Wahington DC law firms. Also, Brendan begins a coveted one-year clerkship as a law clerk to Judge Shedd on The Fourth Federal Circuit Court in August 2008, after which he will return to his firm.
My daughter Courtney gave birth to my first grandchild, Christopher Joseph Powell, in December 2004, and to my second Elizabeth Ann Powell,in April 2007, See Pictures. Courtney is mar...Expand for more
ried to Timothy Ballou Powell who is a genius computer systems analyst for Northropp Grumman Newport News. Courtney was teacher in the Newport News Public School System (no, not to the "locals" who could use it, but to immigrant kids whose first language is Spanish.) She is now a stay at home mom, and loves it.
I was married to Jane Gardner in October 1998. happily so and remain so. See pictures.
My brother Bill and sister Mary Louise McAlpine still live in the Norfolk/Portsmouth/Chesterpeake area. Bill works in a home mortgage company (ouch!) in Virinia Beach and Mary Louise is the court room clerk for the General District Court in Portsmouth. ( a/k/a Judge Mary Louise )
I still feel my roots are in Portsmouth and think about my classmates and "those days" often. They were good times, and good people, all around. I am very happy with my lot in life, and believe it would not have worked out this way, if I had gone to any other grade school or high school or been associated with any other group of wonderful classmates. My best to all. Tom Carr
